The Bunday Evening Thumps

Good evening, Everybun!

Like Auntie Jane said, "We're in good shape for the shape we're in." Our visit with Dr. Learning at Avian and Animal Hospital went really well. Just imagine - two bunn-savy doctors in one place! Dr. Learning expressed Charlie's bladder, and a lot of stuff came out. That covered our fear of the bladder stone plugging up the poor girl. Then we decided to repeat the bloodwork we did back in February. And the numbers came back OK.
Creatinine is at 1.0 (no change) and something called "BUN" - we kid you not - went from 11 to 13 - still on the low end of the normal range. And even calcium went down a touch from 14.5 to 14.3.

My biped has been worried sick over those numbers for weeks now, and it's a relief to know we're holding wings level as much as we can.

Today, though, the meatsack has no idea how Charlie's doing. It's been a rough few days for Charlie. All we can do now is let her rest as much as possible. She's doing better on one paw, and on the other she sits in a bundo, staring off into space. Then she comes out for a cookie, and the dude is bouncing off the walls.

So the silly goose decided to pick a fight with the elephant grass in the yard to bleed off some of that scared energy, and it helped. The caring fatigue starts to feel chronic, with few means in sight to recharge. And nobunny wants to hear nothing' about "No end in sight" either.

If all goes well, we'll art tonight, hang out, pretend we're terrific. We experimented with a combination of a graphite stick, a water-soluble pencil, matte acrylic medium, and canvas. It all went sideways. Thank Bun it was a tiny canvas.

Tomorrow, we have the option to drop off Charlie at the clinic, first thing in the morning, but that would mean extra stress as well. We're keeping our paws crossed for Charlie to keep on healing through the night. I'm supposed to get my wellness check at 5pm tomorrow, but if Charlie needs more care, she can have my spot. I'll get my nails trimmed and get the rest checked out later.

Good night and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Hellos, Everybunny!

Something bad has been brewing since yesterday. Friday morning, my biped discovered a bunch of bloody pee spots from Charlie. We have seen this before, so we didn't panic, and Charlie seemed to be doing better by the evening. We thought, "Oof, another close one, but we'll call Dr. Zellner first thing Saturday morning anyway."

Today we can't get any pee out of Charlie. When we do fluids or give her recovery food, she will always get mad enough to urinate at least a tiny bit. Not today. She ate almost 20 ml of Sarx mix, and the pee pad stayed dry.

Well, Dr. Zellner is not it today (the clinic is closed on Fridays). So we're going to see Dr. Learning at the Avian. We were going to wait until M*nd*y morning and drop off Charlie first thing in the morning, but that's too much of a wait.

This is new territory, and it feels super scary, not good at all.

We'll keep you posted.

Robin

Look, anybunny can ignore you, hoomin. Making art of it is for professionals like yours truly, m'kay?

- Thank you, Jen, and SWFHRR

PS: Robin (aka Cinder) came into rescue as part of a group of eleven and transformed into a true belle-of-the-ball.

She is around a year old, a little shy but an independent girl who likes to choose her own socializing time. Litter box trained and handles her grooming needs like a champ - essential for the upkeep of her magnificent coat.

Robin would prefer a quiet home and would love to enjoy life at her own, independent pace. https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=2818928&name=Robin

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Good evening, Everybun!

We're doing well and still have a whole lot of this really lazy bunday left on our paws.

We had a good break from the biped yesterday, and today it swung the other way. Endless head rubs, onning on and on about everything and nothing, religion and politics; nothing was safe or spared. Before the sub-q fluids, Charlie started to groan, "Oh, for Bun's sake, just stab me already!" It's a good thing the sorry sod mended his way about the veg, or he would let us clear farmer's stand of greens and bunnanas. Instead, we got apple sticks, and head rubs. Thump!

Yeah, the new routine is more agreeable with our gizzards.

Last night we arted a tiny bit, and it wasn't that great, so we'll try to make up for it tonight. The meatbag was trying to get everything done early, so when we commence the evening galevanting, there will be nothing left to do but hang out with us, some paper and pencils.

When the biped returned home yesterday, he looked kinda funny. Like he couldn't keep his balance or something. I was trying to size him up to see if I need to call the glue factory. Never mind the horses - I got a semi-live one for you! They charge extra on the weekends, but whatever.

And then it hit me - he was stumbling about because his *rs was handed to him at the drawing session. Nothing came out right, so you know, with the caboose not where it was supposed to be, his center of gravity was off; completely out of the envelope, out of the normal limits. But somehow, he managed to stay vertical.

Maybe we'll all sleep on that one. It's been raining all day, and it's the perfect day to "snooz it over." After all, we need to be rested for tomorrow's trip to Dr. Zellner for Charlie's bladder expression. Keep your paws crossed for us.

Good night and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Bun morning, Everybun!

We're doing well. Charlie keeps on doing bunny things and keeps on loafing tucks-out.

The rest is rubbish. Like my hoomin's tar pits, the never-ending, infernal summer, and anything else you wanna throw in there.

I think we're in for a quiet weekend. My biped is trying to find new ways to hang out with us without being over-bipedding. He thinks we don't notice. Truth be told, he gets maybe thirty, forty-five minutes out of the day with us - and that's if all goes well. That's out of the entire day! I know, he should be glad he gets that. No, bun chores and sub-q fluids for Charlie don't count. Yes - he tries to make the best of it, though.

We finished the big sketch pad this week, and Charlie and I got the last page. After that, we started a new sketchpad with the official "chomp of disapproval." The sorry sod wondered which one of us made a dinner of it.

We'll keep you posted!

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Good evening, Everybun!

Well, well, well - a fresh batch of smack hay just got served! Oh, yes, we're doing well. Charlie is in the haybin, digging, noming, and foraging. Yeah, we're OK.

Now the important stuff. Do you have any recipes for smack hay? Here's what we've got:

  1. A base layer of oxbow timothy hay.
  2. A medley of oat hay and orchard grass on top.
  3. Very to extremely liberal sprinkling of:
  4. Mint Flakes
  5. Oregano Flakes
  6. Thyme
  7. Parsley Flakes
  8. Belinda's Blend
  9. Herbal Blend
  10. Young at Heart Blend
  11. All gently shaken so the toppings mix with the hay.

Talk about your nose going crazy!

Tonight we'll art and help the biped finish his big sketch pad. There are two sheets of paper left in it, and they are Charlie's. Maybe we'll start a little itsy-bitsy canvas for some experimental stuff.

And we're keeping our paws crossed for that bladder expression appointment tomorrow.

Good night and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Hellos, Everybunny!

I'm celebrating the 2nd anniversary of my bladder surgery. It may as well be a birthday.

I'm doing well, doing bunny things, loafing, stretching, disapproving, jonesing for treats. Of course it's a little hard to make one particular day special when the hoomin tries to make every day a Bunsmas, or a Bunsgiving, or Bunoween. And sure as thump I wouldn't be here without Dr. Zellner and Dr. Teed.

So, here's to good cheer and a bunderful good old day in the making! Thank you, Everybunny <3

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Gus and Charlie the-bunday-evening-thumps-26-08-09-DSC_2574
A good old minute in three acts: "Disapprove, Nome, Nap."

Good evening, Everybun!

The hoomin thought he could get all chummy with us this morning. We've tried to tolerate him; we really did, but come on, bun! The head rubs were good but not that good.

We're doing well otherwise.

Charlie keeps on tossing the water bowls.

The blobs - there are two - will run into some pretty nasty wind shear and the Saharan dust.

We're making our hoomin clean OUR art room again - he deserves it.
Charlie's second anniversary of her bladder stone removal surgery is coming up.

We are so grateful for every moment we have with her, and for some reason we are on edge at the same time. What sort of cake should we prep for that occasion? What sorta art should we make?

And you're right, of course - we'll sleep on it.

Good night and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Gus gus-charlie-espresso-update-26-08-08-DSC_2576_2
Gus, "this one will get painted, eh?"

Hellos, Everybunny!

The day feels eerily quiet and slow. We're doing well and have no surprises to report. Charlie's appointment went well, and the doctor had nothing to report either. Charlie is mostly tucks-out. At least her gizzard is doing really well.

For my hoomin, it's been one of those weeks Bun wants to forget, though. The good news is, we are here; we have a good old day on our paws and Bun willing, we should have a good night of arting.

We did pretty last evening too. There were treats, and snackers, head rubs, loafing and a bit of arting.

And for something completely different, reports are popping up this morning about something, maybe, nobunny knows, stuff brewing in the eastern Atlantic. I think we're going to sleep on it for now.

Now we turn a few degrees again. Charlie's been tossing the water bowls the last few days. What gives? Not enough, too much, or the wrong kinda gin the hoomin's been using!? Is another flogging in order?

We'll keep you posted!

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Good evening, Everybun!

We are finally getting some rain! The rainy and groovy day really makes it easy to catch up on the zees. Which is good, because it keeps me from diving into the Sicience mag, looking for endigtments of humanity. But I digress.

Charlie is doing well, and we welcome the relief since that GI issue a couple of weeks back. Today, she's been attacking the hay bowl with verve and gusto.

Yes, we arted a little bit last night. Bun always hopes for more, but life is what it is and doesn't always cooperate. We're still grateful for all those good old minutes we got.

Bun willing, we'll try to have a better art night tonight with treats and all the trimmings.

Oh, thump, what's the point!? I've been digesting another article for weeks now. I was just hoping that it would go away if I ignored it. Instead, a little emotional gas bubble is growing, and I'll have to let it out eventually. Maybe next time.

Good night and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Bun morning, Everybun!

Thump on wood - we have nothing to report. Charlie's M*nd*y expression went well, and Dr. Zellner didn't raise any concerns.

The Ten Days of Sulfa Twice A Day Wrestling Festival ended Wednesday night, and Charlie is very hoppy about that.

I think the hoomin is finally getting used to this "not over-vegging" routine. We still get that sprig of mint when Charlie gets her daily meds, but that's about it.

And we enjoy our safe-from-meds-and-stuff space time in the evening. Extra treats? Yes! Headrubs? Absolutely! Tolerating my hoomin's arting antics? Sigh, I mean, what are we supposed to do with the sorry biped!? Do you have any idea what the farms in the up-state go for now!?

OK, never mind the good old days; first come the good old minutes.

We'll keep you posted!
- Gus
