NOTES: Jilly and Milly were born at BHRR in 2012. Their mom, Tilly, and brother, Chilly, were adopted together and we are hopeful these girls will find their happy ever after very soon as well! They are a couple of adorable, smart, curious and silly sisters who love each other almost as much as they love digging, eating, playing and napping (not necessarily in that order).

Site Update
Greetings, Everybunny!
Today, the mood is somber at the Bunstronaut Office after John McCain left for the RainbowBridge. Naval aviator like so many of his contemporaries that won the space race. It's heart-wrenching to watch them leave, especially at times like these.
We reached out to the local rescue with an offer to visit and take pics of their rescue bunns looking for their forever homes. Hoomin thinks he could do the project without stressing the bunns a whole lot. Maybe this would be helpful in reaching more people?
We'll keep you posted,

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update
Greetings, Everybunny!
Charlie, of course, enjoyed her bribe saaaaalad. She didn't even mind the dramatic background that turned out to be made for her.
Gus helped test the new light set up. Hoomin ordered a small panel of LED lights, and when they arrived on Wednesday, Gus managed to extort some snacks. He didn't have to work hard. The light works well even if it puts out less light than we thought it would. Gus didn't mind it
Hoomin also prototyped a new teat for us and promised to serve it tomorrow.
We'll keep you posted,

NOTES: Saturday and her sister Sunday came to BHRR in 2014. Two days
after arrival, Saturday birthed two babies…Sprout and Sprocket. They
went into foster care where they grew like weeds and bloomed. Rarely
have we ever seen three more beautifully devoted bunnies than this mom
and her two kids. Saturday, Sprout and Sprocket are always
together…whether eating, sleeping, playing or just relaxing. They are
outgoing, playful and wonderfully curious and with the right family who
will work with them on their litterbox habits, they will light up your
life for many, many years. Their favorite thing is when a volunteers
lays down with them because in their eyes people are jungle gyms and
meant for climbing on. Wouldn’t you love these three to be climbing all
over you?

Site Update
Hellos, Everybunny!
The crew rotated last night, and Gus turned some doughnuts on the new rug. He approved. At least Gus approved when the hoomin wasn't watching. Gus would run the circles, and then he would stop and be on the lookout.
The plan for the rest of today is to get back to all the new friends on BunsSpace. We've neglected that for a while now, and that's not nice. Our hoomin servant says the study time is chewing up everything. Oh well, at least the test prep is moving along.
We'll keep you posted,

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update
Greetings, Everybunny!
We got a new toy yesterday. A decent size rug to binky on! I gave it a try this morning, and yes, bun can binky on it pretty well. It's not precisely a shuttle facility runway kind of a thing, but you can get airborne and fly sideways if you like.
Yes, the rug is mostly red, so in a way, our hoomin rolled out the red carpet for us and served us a crispeh brunch saaaaalad. Gus will give the rug a try tomorrow.
We'll keep you posted,

Camilla
It says here you want to be a Beverage Chef at the Bunstronauts' Office. So, hoomin, when would or wouldn't you add wheatgrass to a carrotini?

Site Update - Taking Photos
Light is from flash pointing away from the buns into a sheet of gold, reflective material. |
Combination of ambient light from the window with a little help from flash pointed a the wall to Gus'es right and the photog's left. |
Gus is between the light from the window and the camera. No flash here, only what the window gave us. |
Greetings, Everybunny!
A while back, our friends Alyse and Dave asked about tips for taking better bunny pictures.
If you have any suggestions, please do tell.
Here's what we do and it works - most of the time:
- Get as low as you can to the bun level
- Get close to that mouf and eye
- Keep the light source behind you or to the side
The rest is icing on the carrot cake, and the only limits are your creativity and budget. We think getting creative is most important, as long as it does not put anybunny in danger. As you experiment with different scenarios and lighting conditions, you'll discover very quickly where the limits of your equipment are.
We try to get a little below the eye level of the bunn. That's hard on the knees, and it's a workout. Then we try to catch their eyes or moufs and let them fill the frame.
Whenever possible, we work with the ambient light or some fixed light source. We try not to abuse the flash.
Good equipment is helpful but not always an option. We have an old DSLR camera (Nikon D3200) with a couple of specialized lenses. The one we use most often is a fixed length, Nikkor 35mm lens. The best thing about it is the f/1.8 f-stop. The trick is getting it to focus precisely on the desired spot. The buns like to move about a lot, and it can be challenging to keep up with them. The f/1.8 makes things even more tricky. Because of its shallow depth of field, it's easy to accidentally focus somewhere between the eye and the mouf and both end up fuzzy.
Then there's the whole business of working over the pics in a photo editor, but that's a story for another time.
So if you have any tips, questions or pics you would like to share and tell everybunn about, we would love to hear from you. Of course, we're always looking for disapproval, but you already know that.

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update
You pest! I hid in the tunnel for a reason! |
Hellos, Everybunny!
We have another, groovy, cloudy, and rainy weekend on our paws. Hoomin, of course, decided to serve the saaaaalads late. Then he pestered us with the clicky thing. Thump! But, the nomes are OK. He said he took enough pics today to have some for tomorrow's update. Oh, he thinks he'll make that post before tomorrow midnight. Oh, the laughs! Well, good luck with that. That's what I say.
So hurry up now, hoomin. You still owe us extra headrubs. Because it's rainy, that's why!
We'll keep you posted,

Site Update
Good Evening, Everybunny!
It's five till Midnight, and we might not make with the post. It's been a long day. Our hoomin complete setting up profiles for us on https://www.BunSpace.com
Thank you, Ken, for that idea. Hopefully, we'll make more friends.
Here we are:
Espresso: https://www.bunspace.com/view_bunny?bunid=29204
Gus: https://www.bunspace.com/view_bunny?bunid=29215
Charlie: https://www.bunspace.com/view_bunny?bunid=29216
Anyway, our hoomin knocked out a bunch of questions in the prep book again. At this rate, he should be able to take the written test in about a month. We'll keep our paws crossed and see how he does, right?
We'll keep you posted,
- Gus

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update
You missed another one, didn't you? |
Eh, hoomin. If you flunk, maybe you can be a salad chef apprentice, no? |
Greetings, Everybunny!
It's been a lovely, slow week. The hoomins gave bonding another try. Gus and I tried it in a small pen. I objected, and it turned out to be a short session.
At nights, I hang out with the salad making hoomin. He reads and scribbles, and I nom and give him snarky looks until we both get worn out.
Gus is doing very well, and I hear he jumps on the bed every morning to check on the hoomins. Charlie is best friends with both of us. I don't know how she does it.
We'll keep you posted,
