The Bunday Evening Thumps

Espresso, "You're always late."
Gus and Charlie
Gus and Charlie

Good evening, Everybun!

We had dispatched our hoomin early this morning. It's pretty easy to do - you take the cookies and run. And you disappear into the bowels of the bondos and hidey tunnels. We start napping, and the place looks like we're not even there.

He needed to be in a different place today. The tail end of January is thick with pretty grim anniversaries. The Apollo 1 crew, the Challenger, my hommin's Mom passing away, then his brother. So it helps to sit in front of a canvas and piddle. A touch-up here, a touch-up there. Step away, have a look, go in for another touch-up. Add a shadow under Graham Cracker's bum to ground him better. Step away.

The frame, the canvas are like a portal into a safe space.
On Friday, my hoomin got a pretty decent update from his doctor. He will only have to lose a pint of crimson if the hematocrit count exceeds 45%. Until now, the threshold was 43%. The medication seems to be doing its job, and the numbers are trending in the right direction. And yet, even this piece of good news somehow proved turbulent.

So, yes, a little bit of Cobalt Blue and a dab of Titanium White soothe and smooth things out.

Goodnight and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Gus, "Hellos, there! Yes, very hoppy to see you."
Charlie, "So, it's nineteen seventy what exactly!?"
Espresso, "Go ahead - call me a sneezer again."

Hellos, Everybunny!

I think we're done with all the "musts" for the week. Well, my hoomin is done with that - I don't have to "must" anything. Maybe thump, make pellets, and such, but those points of light brighten and right what sometimes is an upside-down gloomy week.

It's going to be all art and such stuff for the rest of the weekend. The sorry sod will probably try to immortalize my mouf again. But that's OK - as long as "The Bribe Is Right!" Shouldn't that be a TV show or something?

Of course, the good news is we're doing well. Even Spressy the Sneezer is holding up all right! He'll act up one day, get nebulized, and he's back to doing well. Go figure - 'cause we can't.

We'll keep you posted!

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Charlie, "Get with it, hoomin! The answer is 'Yes, here's more cookies'!"
Charlie, "You missed a spot here ..."
Gus, "The Commissioner gotz to eat too! And no, the dandelions ain't 'hot'!"
Espresso, "And from now on that's how I expect my medications to be packaged and decorated - well done, Danielle!"
"Graham Cracker and Mel" - another Spanish Needle study.

Good evening, Everybun!

The bitter cold seems to be gone. At least for a while, it felt like a proper winter. Then the skies cleared, and somehow, the clear blue felt borderline scorching.

But it's been a good day for loafing and arting. First, Gussy got it with the clicky thing, then us, and finally, my hoomin declared it the "Spanish Needle Day" and attacked the canvas. I'm thinking he'll stop making incremental progress reports on the piece. Today might have been when the clean-up started, and the next update will be when the piece is finished. Sigh. I can only hope.

Of course, the day is still young and there shall be more arting still. The days turned blissful sometime before the Sun came up, and we'll try to stay there.

Goodnight, and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Charlie
Gus, "Yes, 'The Commissioner' is hoppy to see you - can't you tell!?"
Gus and Charlie, "Sure, talk to the tails - see if they care."

Hellos, Everybunny!

And so proper winter arrived at our burrow. Oh, we're fine - warm and toasty, griping about the usual. I'm always looking for ways to keep my hoomin guessin', of course. It takes more than you think to keep up that indignant look.

I keep hearing this will be a day of loafing for the bi-ped, but I'll believe it when I see it. It's a nice idea, but that painting won't finish itself.

We'll keep you posted!

Hoppy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

Charlie
Espresso and Charlie
"Graham Cracker and Mel" in progress

Hellos, Everybun, and Hoppy MLK Day!

It's cold-ish outside without being frigid. The perfect day to reflect on dreams, overbunning, dragging that one paw in front of the other without slipping into nightmares across that fuzzy, thin line.

It's also the last stop before before Memorial Day. We have a feeling a lot of stuff will be sorted out by then, hopefully, the way we like.

My hoomin took the plunge last night and roughed in some Spanish Needle. It feels good - this piece will be finished.

And, yes, we expect to be pampered, like we always do.

We'll keep you posted!

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Gus
Espresso
"Graham Cracker and Mel" - a fresh crop of Spanish Needle pops up ;-)

Good evening, Everybun!

I sayz to my hoomin this morning, "Today we loaf, mkay?" Did he listen? Nooo, of course, not. He tried and piddled as best he could and then loafed anyway. I want a cookie for that!

The time has come to face the Spanish Needle, though. We did a few sketches of it on tracing paper and velum taped to the canvas. There's a certain finality about it. The completion is near. The act of tracing the position of the flower feels irreversible. After the flowers are painted in, even roughly, the rest will be cleaned up.

So, yes, we fret about that. The painting progressed and marked a rough year from the very first sketch in a small notebook. And "Twenty Twenty 4" already smells like a bad sequel that refused to go away.

We'll go with Mel Leipzig, who would probably say - "It's just a painting." And the hematocrit numbers will fall into place - probably sooner rather than later.

Goodnight, and good luck!
- Gus

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Espresso
Charlie and Espresso
Espresso

Hellos, Everybunny!

First things first - I'm doing well, and so is the fluffle. I'll sneeze, the hoomin will nebulize me, and I'll have a good night and day afterward. There's no rhyme to this anymore. There might be a reason - we may never know. Thump! The V. E. T. will call back and talk with my hoomin - I can hear all that, of course - and the sneezer polka goes on.

My hoomin had a rough week in the burrow, though. He had the bi-weekly blood test, and the hematocrit count was over the threshold again. He had really hoped for better numbers this time and to go more than a month without giving up a pint of crimson. Then he found out what the hospital bills for that bloodletting.

And there's nothing I can do for him. Sure, I let him rub my head and brush me - I even pretend I like it. Or I run out to the kitchen, where I'm not supposed to be, to check on stuff, see how the painting's going. But other than that?

Another storm has passed, the temps are dropping, and it's gorgeous outside. It should make for a great, long weekend and a good time to process stuff and push that painting.

We'll keep you posted!

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Charlie, "We'll deal with you after supper. You changed something and I need to know why!?"
Gus, "Yes, yes, I know, the 'ayes ' have it."
Gus and Charlie, "You there! Stop it, hoomin, stop it!"
Espresso, "Sure, try this at home!"

Good evening, Everybun!

We think winter has really settled in La Florida. Another Bunday and another front passed through. We went from being springy and warm yesterday to rainy and cold today, with the temps dropping rapidly. In other words, it's the perfect Loafday.
But that's for us. The bipeds, of course, have to chore to keep the place humming.

My hoomin made good on the promise of working on "Graham Cracker and Mel." Even though he spent only a few hours swinging the brush, it used up all his head space. And I sayz, "Good for him!" Today, the canvas sits covered under a cloth. No, not because it's finished but because my hoomin wants to take a break from looking at it. It's not easy to get that "fresh eye" sometimes. I have a feeling, though, that pretty soon it will be time to just let it be and move on to the Spanish Needle.

Goodnight and good luck!
- Charlie

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Greetings, Everybun!

It's howling outside; dogs and cats are falling from the sky - must be another Florida winter storm passing through. Of course, we're showing off our professional loafing prowess.

Spressy is doing OK with the sneezes - knock on wood and keep our fingers and paws crossed.

We could gripe about this soul-charing re-entry into post-holiday reality, but we won't. September will be here before we know it, and the whole frenzy will replay itself.

In the meantime, my hoomin is trying to wrap up "Graham Cracker and Mel." Most of the details are roughed in, except for the Spanish Needle. But for that to happen, Graham Cracker has to be completed. And we're not there yet - close but no cookie. So, guess what my hoomin is planning on doing today?

We'll keep you posted!
- Gus
