The Bunday Evening Thumps

Good evening, Everybun!

The infirmary is all set up for Charlie for Tuesday. Now, it feels routine and downright morbid. Let's hope that this third time really is the charm.

As for myself, I had a nice little sneezing fit today and got a few drops of pure saline in my nose. We're using the saline ampules we used for the nebulizer since they contain only saline. Dr. Teed recommended pure saline rather than something with preservatives, etc. We're not able to locate any saline in a bottle that doesn't contain additional ingredients.

In other news, we had a massive amount of head rub time, brushing, and all the cookies anybun could want. My hoomin got to paint for a little bit. It's starting to feel nice outside, but you can never be sure if it's fall or spring - that's Florida for you.

Goodnight and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Hellos, Everybun!

It's been a quiet day in the burrow.

Charlie and I saw Dr. Teed at Keystone Animal Hospital in Bradenton yesterday. As we confirmed last Saturday, Charlie does have a small hernia, maybe the size of a fat blueberry, and she's scheduled to have the repair done this upcoming Tuesday. So, we sure could use more of those good vibes.

I got a good look over, and the doctor talked about my nose with my hoomin for a long time. So, in case the sneezes try to come back, we'll try:pure saline drops in the nose,
if they continue we'll use Metacam as an anti-inflammatory,
and then the medicated nose drops. The last thing we want is to develop resistance to antibiotics.

When my hoomin reviewed his notes on my sneezes lately, it turned out - knock on wood - that I had a really good run. In retrospect, the rhinoscopy had made all the difference.

And my hoonin will continue to work on improving my environment, too. We're still working on new, tasty baseboards for my room because, of course, we are.

We'll keep you posted!

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Good evening, Everybun!

Welcome to the "not much to report" edition of the Thumps. Everybun just tried to stay out of each other's way. I got the first little bundo made from thin plywood. But since we're all still on the discombobulated side, my hoomin has had no chance to document it.

The longing to return to "normal" is palpable, but can Bun trust the "normal?" And maybe the "normal" was just a smoke and mirrors show all along? My hoomin's friend wants to discuss if staying in La Florida makes any sense anymore.

In the meantime, Charlie will see Dr. Teed at  Keystone Animal Hospital in Bradenton this Friday. It was supposed to be my appointment, but Charlie can have it. Maybe - at least for a while - "benign neglect" can be the option for dealing with that tiny hernia spot.

We'll keep you updated, of course, and until then, no news is good news.

Goodnight and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Espresso, "Checking up on Gus and Charlie in the back seat on the drive back from evac."
Espresso, "On the way to the V. E. T. this morning."

Hellos, Everybun!

It's good to be back home. We've made the drive back in about seven and a half hours. It took us five minutes to chillax and settle in. The house, indeed, had no damage. But the poor trees took an awful beating. The mango tree is half gone. Sigh.

We visited our V. E. T. this morning, and the results were mixed.
I, Gus, got a checkup, a nail trim, and an ear cleaning. I'm getting a little bit of thickening of the lenses in his eyes and some spinal arthritis. But I'm about seven or eight, so the doctor said, "He's allowed."

Charlie had her belleh looked at and, as Dr. Teed at Keystone suspected, she still had a tiny hernia spot. We'll just watch it for now. She has a follow-up visit with Dr. Teed in a week and a half,  so we'll see if anything needs to be done. But it's nothing to panic about.
Espresso showed a raised temperature (104.3) and a little gas as if going into stasis. This was a complete surprise, as Espresso showed no distress last night or this morning.

Dr. Z  gave him a really good belleh massage and taught my hoomin hot to do it properly. It feels so freakish at first, but he's grateful for the lesson. Then, when we got home, Spressy got some gas drops, Metoclopramide, and Metacam. He's bouncing all around and shows no signs of distress.

So, all in all, it's been a great visit. And I  almost forgot - Charlie and I got vaccinated for RHDV2! Espresso didn't because of his elevated temp, so we'll take care of his furry little caboose later.

Now, everybunn is trying to decompress and loaf for a bit. Even my hoomin, Sorry Sod the Wigged Out said he'll try to chillax.

We'll keep you posted!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update - Heading Home

Hellos, Everybun!

We're heading home and need all your paws and fingers crossed - here's to making the drive in seven hours instead of the ten getting out. Believe us - your good vibes helps a lot!

We'll have recovery food on hand, and we'll have snack breaks. Spressy will get head rubs most of the time. We'll try to make the best of the adventure.

We have power back home, and it will grand to free roam again. We know the hoomin will keep a close eye on our eating. So,  here's to safe travels; no news will be good news.

The Bunday Evening Thumps

"Espresso, The Inspirer"

Good evening, Everybun!

We're still "camping out," and it seems we will be there at least another day or two. The house is still without power, and gasoline is still scarce in St. Pete, so there's no good reason to rush back. And one of my hoomins works remotely anyway.

One of the lessons learned so far is the X-pen setup. We are very interested in tearing up the disposable pads it's driving my hoomin up the wall. When we get back home, we'll get more washable pads and wooden bundos that can be assembled as needed, and we'll do a good dry run of the setup.

The hoomin is very vigilant, keeps a close eye on us, and jumps on any sign of trouble. So, reducing any potential for "trouble" will help "the nerves."

Here's something funny. My hoomin, the renowned art supply collector and connoisseur of blank sketchpads, forgot to pack one. Off he went looking for an art store last night. Today, we had some quality time together. At least he put the pads to work, and we got more cookies. So we won't complain - for now.

Goodnight and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, Gus, and Milton Update IV

Hellos, Everybun!

We're hanging in there. Buntie Susan visited our house and reported that everything was intact. Some trees got it bad, though. The good news is we'll be able to clean up by ourselves. We feel bad for them - they haven't done anything to deserve this, either.

We wait some more now - there's still no good reason to try to go back. So, we're managing the best we can. My tummy feels better. Sneezing is sporadic.

We've had it with sitting in those pens, so, of course, bunstructing is in high gear. We tear up what we can just to keep the hoomin on the edge.

Aside from that, we try to process what happened. It's a lot of food for thought when Mother Nature decides to learn you a lesson and plow everything over. "You can change your way the easy way, or I can help you," her storm whispered.

We'll keep you posted!

Espresso, Charlie, Gus, and Milton Update III

Hellos, Everybun!

The good news is everyone is accounted for. We were able to hear from all our friends and family.
Now we wait some more. We still have no word on the condition of the house. We'll hold tight for a bit longer.

Everybun here is doing well enough, except the murderizer is either in a bad mood or something is starting. Espresso had his morning cookies very begrudgingly. So, talk about a nightmare on top of a nightmare.

We'll keep you posted!

Espresso, Charlie, Gus, and Milton Update II

Our temporary, new digs.

Hellos, Everybunny!

The landfall happened, and we're trying to find out how bad things got.
Friends and family in St. Pete are without power, and we'll try to hear from them.

We'll be staying out a little longer than we would like to, but at least we're lucky that we can. One of the questions we don't want to  ask is, "What's left to go back to?"

One good piece of news is that we are interested in cookies again. It took us a good forty-eight hours to settle in and relax. Our temporary accommodations have been rearranged, and we can hop about a little more.

We'll keep you posted!

Espresso, Charlie, Gus, and Milton Update

Espresso and Charlie
Espresso, the Disapproving Pilot Examiner in the right seat ;-)
Gus

Hellos, Everybunny!

The good news is we've made it through the ten-hour drive. We had to be syringe-fed during the trip a couple of times, but we made it. The hoomin is still hovering over us, wondering if anybun is going into stasis.

No bunny's very excited right now, but our small bundos are set up, and we're doing the best we can. Yes, it's a royal pain to evacuate, and then it gets more exciting for us.

We have everything we need now, and Espresso's entire "medicine cabinet" is here too.

Now we wait. And think about everybun and everyone who stayed behind.

We'll keep you posted!
- Gus

PS: When this is all over we'll do a proper write up on what and how we packed for the trip.

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Charlie, "Conditions definitely feel 'Red' right now."

Good evening, Everybun!

My hoomins covered up all the windows this morning. The latest word is that a Cat 3 hurricane will hit us sometime Wednesday. Right now, it looks like a direct hit or close to it. Of course, we're hoping for a close-to-miraculous push of a cold front to shred this nasty thing before landfall. Then again, a miracle for us would mean greater misfortune for somebunny else. And don't wish that on anybun either.

So, my hoomin is piling up our supplies, medicines, and such in preparation for evacuation. Now, Espresso and I have done that trip once, about seven years ago, and it was not much fun. We miss Latte. One good thing from that trip was that we bonded and made great fluffle. But we won't try any bonding experiments this time.

My hoomin is worried sick about keeping us hydrated during the travel. I smell syringe feeding of very runny Sarx and such.

Part of my hoomin can't believe this is happening, but at least another keeps hustling to get everything ready. We'll keep you posted, of course.

Goodnight and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Gus and Charlie
Espresso, "Catching sun spots after a nap."

Hellos, Everybunny!

My hoomin wrote the post in longhand yesterday while waiting in a room for his doctor. All went well - his numbers came back well and were within range. Then we had to scratch everything - because it's all about the weather. We're still dealing with the aftermath of Helene, only to get ready for a wet, rainy weekend, which will be followed on Wednesday by anything from a low-pressure system to a tropical storm to a weak hurricane.

Today, we're rearranging the house to accommodate one of my hoomin's mom. She was able to airlift out of Asheville last Monday. And my hoomin is now giddily moving his office stuff into "Espresso's room."

And how is Espresso? He's doing well - except for the sneezing part. He's back on nose drops of Oflaxicin. We're trying to hang on till Friday when he'll have a follow-up with the v. e. t.

Charlie had her follow-up exam with Dr. Teed at Keystone Animal Hospital in Bradenton, and she got a clean bill of health. Everything is healing pretty well, and her little guts are staying where they were supposed to be. We'll go back for another check in a month and a half.

We'll keep you posted!
