Pancake

Yes! Let's go with it: "Deer detection limits in astronomical imaging using self-supervised spatiotemporal denoising." You can't make it up!

- Thank you, Renee and Brad!

PS: Bunlife - the adventures never end, and new ones sprout all over - there's something new on the drafting table.

Here's the original article in the Science magazine: "Deeper detection limits in astronomical imaging using self-supervised spatiotemporal denoising.

But if you didn't coffee enough, or it was too early when you tried to read that title, the "Deer" is so much easier. So much easier ;-) If there isn't a story about deer detection limits in astronomical imaging, there ought to be one ;-) And would it not be a much better telltale sign of intelligent life out there than whatever it is we're expecting?

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Charlie - Bunstorm Rolling In 36x48 the-bunday-evening-thumps-DSC_2383-
"Charlie - Bunstorm Rolling In" - future 36 x 46

Good evening, Everybun!

Knock on wood, the best we can do today is to give you a drought report. We're still waiting for the skies to cough up a raindrop over here. The skies get groovy and cloudy, the heavens start to wrtch and dry heave with thunder, and nothing comes out.

Our strawberry ain't doin' any too good. It tried to produce a berry, but it's too miserable out there, and we think it gave up. Should we protest with a strongly worded post or a letter?

Back in the burrow, my hoomin is trying to squeeze all he can out of the day, but complains that napping like we do does not feel like squeezing anything out of anything.

He's been looking at Charlie's photo taken this week and still can't comprehend the skyscape that she is. She's even more stunning in black and white - nobunny wears it THAT well. Of course, that "this has to be painted" list gets longer and longer. Should he paint "just" a portrait? Or the full body? First one, then the other?

I get it. This is my bunwife, why do you think I feel so lucky!?

Good night and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Hellos, Everybunny!

Charlie binkied! On Thursday, Charlie binkied! First, she flew some steep turns around my hoomin and then went straight up into the air - all for a crummy cookie? Maybe she was feeling this much better. She lifted off a solid two inches, maybe even two and a sixteenth - but she did!

Yes, it sounds like something so tiny it could have happened only in the Super Collider at CERN, where they smash things to find disaprprovons and other subatomic particles, but it happened!

Oh, everybunny got notified at once. Good Dr. Zellner was so glad to get THAT update. But how did we get to the binky?

On M*nd*y, during Charlie's bladder expression appointment, Dr. Zellner agreed that something was brewing again. So, Charlie went back on Trimeth/Sulfa - for ten days this time.

Charlie improved almost immediately, and once more we're enjoying a quiet stretch. We are in the evenings, enjoy that one paw going in front of the other.

We'll keep you posted!

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Good evening, Everybun!

It's been a quiet day. My hoomin convinced himself Charlie was in some kinda trouble yesterday and his marbles were popping out.

I sayz, "Well, what you need to do is make an appointment for yourself and have your brain bladder expressed. Maybe get that brain stone you've been passing softened up a little. Have that worry grid flushed out. Let me get one of my shivs and see if I can let some sub-q fluids out of you!? It may help; you never know. Cause, you know - you never know."

Well, he brought out extra treats, and I shut up. But my offer still stands!
Even Buntie Susan came out to assess his mess, and yes, he was mostly off his rocker.

That said, we cleaned up today's breakfast like there was no tomorrow. So, he's convinced things are better today. And boring.

Yes, there will be arting tonight again.

Good night and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Hellos, Everybunny!

We're keeping our paws and fingers crossed - we have a good, boring week in progress. Charlie recovered from the M*nd*y appointment pretty quickly, and it's been snacks, naps, and arting ever since.

She's mad, super mad, this morning though. Oh, nothing much, just the daily fluids, you know. But they went great  - as far as sub-q fluids can go. It only took one stab, the flow was very good, and she gladly accepted two - that's two - chunks of papaya!

Then she immediately went into hiding. Which sends my hoomin reeling. But, now we're hoping for a boring, bun Day of Summer. It's been brutally hot this week. We'll try to chill and nap. My hoomin will clear out this morning, and won't be checking on us every five minutes. Or, you know, spying on us from his tar pit throne, sneaking pics like the last one, taken through the bookshelf. And he wonders why he can't get anything done at the pits - sorry sod.

We'll keep you posted!

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Gus, the studio forebun 26-06-13-the-bunday-evening-thumps-DSC_2342
Gus, The Studio Forebun, "Yeah. We're doing this one next."

Good evening, Everybun!

That right there is the whole game - hoomin sneaking peeks at me while he works, and Gus telling him what the next project will be.

Gus pulled out some old sketches from a drawer and spread them out on the floor, and that was that.

We're having a really quiet, boring, Bun day of Summer. It's so quiet you can hear Charlie's little snores and squeaks - everything else is bunnana gravy.

That's where the paws are tonight - we'll put one in front of the other tomorrow morning.

And wish us luck at tomorrow's bladder appointment.

Good night and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Guand Charlie the Studio Forebuns - Gus-and-Charlie-the-studio-forebuns-20260610_214857 1
Wednesday evening, Charlie and Gus as "The Studio Forebuns"

Hellos, Everybunny!

Asking for a friend, but we're in the "boring" part of the week, right? We're doing well now, but we had a rough start last M*nd*y. Charlie's bladder expression went well; she got rid of more regolith, and things went downhill from there. The expression must have been more irritating than usual, or maybe she was still a little irritated from the previous week. Nobunny knows - she's not the kind that tells. It took her until Wednesday evening to return to her "normal."

OK, OK, it was not regolith, it was this rough, chunky sludge crystals, but may as well be regolith. You rub that stuff against the lining of your gizzard and tell me how it feels.

Poor hoomin didn't know what to do with himself. When he tried to hang around us, Charlie would bolt every time.

We could barely art together in the evenings. The sorry sod kept as far away as he could. But, art we did. And it went pretty well, all things considered.
By Thursday morning, you could hardly tell that something was off. So, bladder stones, sludge, and UTIs are all exhausting. Managing the condition can get very tedious and trying. Staying put, and knowing when not to do stuff, recognizing that just doing more can do more harm than good. Unfortunately, it only comes with experience, the help of a bunderful v.e.t., and bunny-savvy friends.

Now, me thinks that extra naps are on order for today, and you bet we'll art it up this evening!

We'll keep you posted!

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Good evening, Everybun!

Yes, we need some rain something awful. The Spanish Needle harvest is so pitiful these days. And that's all we got. My hoomin did some hanging out with his kind, so we had a very pleasant break from the never-ending treat-nagging.

"Oh, would you like an apple stick?"
"How's your gizzard, Gussy Gus!?" and then he gets my gizzard.
"Would you like another cookie, Charlie?"
"How's my Charlie?"

Alllllllll, daaaaaay, loooooooong.

But now, Bun help ups, he'll want to make up for the lost time, sigh.

Good night and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Hellos, Everybunn!

We're doing well. Charlie gained a little bit of weight, and the UTI seems to be gone.  And if my hoomin heard Dr. Zellner correctly, the bladder stone is now broken up. The good doc even came out of the exam room with the pee tray showing all sorts of chunky grit that got expressed.

Now, if we could just chill and nap. We've been up since three, you know. We'll probably end up arting later this evening. As you can see, we got all the best bribes last night, but we weren't in the mood to art so we didn't. Tough cookies, hoomin. Better luck next time!

And last but not least, that right there is a cold front coming through on Wednesday. Yes, cold front - in Florida, in June. We're not complaining, by the way - we're taking every little win we can.

We'll keep you posted!

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Gus and Charlie 26-05-31-the-bunday-evening-thumps-DSC_2257
Gus, "Look, look hoomin! I'm flooped with my eyes open. Bwahhhahahaha, get the carrier, right now, hoomin! Run! Git!"
Charlie, "Maybe the paper is acid-free, but it ain't organic, hoomin!"
Gus, "And it ain't no dandelion-hemp either! And I can look a LOT meaner!"
Gus in the small, frozen moments sketchbook.

Bun evening, Everybun!

We're doing well, the weekend feels boring, naps are great, and we couldn't be hoppier. The Sun stayed behind the clouds all weekend, and the cloudscapes were magnificent.

Of course, the biped insists on hanging out with us, and that's always a downer, but we do what we can.

Best of all, Charlie is keeping up with doing bunny things. Come evening time, we do tolerate the meatball a little better. He keeps bribing us with snackables. Apple and willow leaves, a touch of kudzu, a snacker here, crunchy pellets there. It is mostly to keep Charlie eating. Think of me as her official taster.

And yes, we do charge for acting as the studio forebunns. Putting up with his nonsense, I mean "art," ain't cheap!

Good night and good luck!
- Gus

P.S.: We realized, after some deliberating, that we need to explain exactly why we stayed put on Friday and did not run to Blue Pearl or VEG when my hoomin found those bloody pee-snots from Charlie.

First, we gave Charlie 0.6 ml of Metacam (the dosage for her weight). Then we reported it to Dr. Zellner and asked if we needed to come in on Saturday (Avian is closed on Fridays).

We stayed put because:

  • We already knew that with Charlie's condition, bloody urine was a possibility
  • At the moment, she was already on Orbax to fight the UTI.
  • Her appetite was great.
  • She was active.
  • Did not show any other signs of distress.
  • There was a good chance we could see Dr. Zellner on Saturday (the next day) if we had to.
  • We already had a tech-doctor appointment set for M*nd*y.
  • We wanted to keep Charlie's stress level to a minimum.

Had we gone to any doctor other than Dr. Zellner, we would have added a lot of stress to the situation. Seeing Dr. Teed would involve at least two hours in the car, an exam, maybe bloodwork, and possibly X-rays.

Any emergency vet, unfamiliar with Charlie's medical history, would have insisted on a full workup, plus whatever procedures they believed were required.

Now, had Charlie been a new bun with us and we had known nothing about her, that would have been an immediate trip to an emergency room.

Are we out of the woods now? No, of course not. Every day feels like a touch-and-go. This first episode of not overreacting felt very, very counterintuitive. Things always feel like a balancing act.
