The Bunday Evening Thumps

Gus and Charlie 26-05-31-the-bunday-evening-thumps-DSC_2257
Gus, "Look, look hoomin! I'm flooped with my eyes open. Bwahhhahahaha, get the carrier, right now, hoomin! Run! Git!"
Charlie, "Maybe the paper is acid-free, but it ain't organic, hoomin!"
Gus, "And it ain't no dandelion-hemp either! And I can look a LOT meaner!"
Gus in the small, frozen moments sketchbook.

Bun evening, Everybun!

We're doing well, the weekend feels boring, naps are great, and we couldn't be hoppier. The Sun stayed behind the clouds all weekend, and the cloudscapes were magnificent.

Of course, the biped insists on hanging out with us, and that's always a downer, but we do what we can.

Best of all, Charlie is keeping up with doing bunny things. Come evening time, we do tolerate the meatball a little better. He keeps bribing us with snackables. Apple and willow leaves, a touch of kudzu, a snacker here, crunchy pellets there. It is mostly to keep Charlie eating. Think of me as her official taster.

And yes, we do charge for acting as the studio forebunns. Putting up with his nonsense, I mean "art," ain't cheap!

Good night and good luck!
- Gus

P.S.: We realized, after some deliberating, that we need to explain exactly why we stayed put on Friday and did not run to Blue Pearl or VEG when my hoomin found those bloody pee-snots from Charlie.

First, we gave Charlie 0.6 ml of Metacam (the dosage for her weight). Then we reported it to Dr. Zellner and asked if we needed to come in on Saturday (Avian is closed on Fridays).

We stayed put because:

  • We already knew that with Charlie's condition, bloody urine was a possibility
  • At the moment, she was already on Orbax to fight the UTI.
  • Her appetite was great.
  • She was active.
  • Did not show any other signs of distress.
  • There was a good chance we could see Dr. Zellner on Saturday (the next day) if we had to.
  • We already had a tech-doctor appointment set for M*nd*y.
  • We wanted to keep Charlie's stress level to a minimum.

Had we gone to any doctor other than Dr. Zellner, we would have added a lot of stress to the situation. Seeing Dr. Teed would involve at least two hours in the car, an exam, maybe bloodwork, and possibly X-rays.

Any emergency vet, unfamiliar with Charlie's medical history, would have insisted on a full workup, plus whatever procedures they believed were required.

Now, had Charlie been a new bun with us and we had known nothing about her, that would have been an immediate trip to an emergency room.

Are we out of the woods now? No, of course not. Every day feels like a touch-and-go. This first episode of not overreacting felt very, very counterintuitive. Things always feel like a balancing act.

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Charlie Chillin' 26-05-30-gus-charlie-espresso-update-DSC_2305
Charlie, "Chillaxing ain't for the weak." ;-)

Hellos, Everybunny!

We're doing well - I think.

Charlie did very well during her bladder expression appointment on Tuesday - she's gained a little weight! Even my hoomin did well with his labwork that day, and Wednesday felt like a day off.

Yesterday morning, we had a few urine discharges from Charlie that looked really bloody and thick snots. It set my hoomin's tiny stubbles on his head on fire. Charlie got a dose of metacam, pics were sent to Dr. Zellner, and panic-waiting for the next pee snot to drop commenced.

But nothing happened. Charlie's appetite is normal, she's doing all her favorite bunny things, and she's mostly loafing with her tucks out.

We'll speak with the V. E. T. later on this morning. We're hoping this is nothing more than part and parcel of her condition. Of course, we already have an appointment for another bladder expression on M*nd*y, so it may become a quick "look over" visit.

Right now, we just don't know. That emotional "whatever hair is left on fire" can really stink up a place, so we're hyper ventilating the burrow with "them positive waves." If you have any positive vibes or waves to spare - send them on over, please ;-)

Here's to a very boring rest of the weekend, and we'll keep you posted!
- Gus

P.S.: And we've heard from Dr. Zellner. This is to be expected. We're good for the weekend. And here's to not overreacting. We'll explain more tomorrow.

Polar and Tundra

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves, hoomin? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change? Like, "Would you like another bunnana, Tundra?"

- Thank you, Brambley Hedge Rabbit Rescue and Erika!

P.S.: Just imagine some positive waves in your life - like Polar and Tundra, looking for a forever home! https://bhrabbitrescue.org/polar-tundra/

I'm tellin' you, hoomin - there's a grain of sea sand, or a craisin, or something under the mattress. I can feel it!

- Thank you, Jen, and SFHRR

P.S.: Violet is three months young, and already survived a lot. She came to the rescue with a broken leg, made a full recovery, and is seriously ready to take over your place. Hoppy Memorial Day

Hoppy Memorial Day from Gus and Charlie 26-05-25-gus-charlie-espresso-update-DSC_2251

Hellos, Everybunny!

We just wanted to take this moment and wish you a safe and reflective Memorial Day. We'll appreciate our Veterans, even the ones that are still with us, but for a thin, thin line separating their holidays.

We'll keep you posted!
- Gus

P.S.: See, up there? My little token of mindful gratitude for the boring, easy loafing days, the rains that come in the evenings, and all the moments between here and there.

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Bun evening, Everybun!

It's been just a good old, boring, lazy Bunday. A true, first Bunday of Summer, if there ever was one.

Everybunny got up ready for the weekend, and even my hoomin crawled out from under whatever it was that flattened him yesterday.

The rain and thunder showed up late, just in time to spice up the night. ..The frogs just outside the door loved it, of course, and crickets partied until the sun came up.

It's about to get late here, but thank Bun for the long weekend. Who knows, maybe tomorrow the hoomin will get up ready to just be and enjoy the daylight.

Right now, I can hear his marbles popping again, like popcorn, popping out of his mind over tiny, micro-micro changes to our routine. We night awled all night in the living room, and Charlie is napping in the "wrong" bundo this afternoon - out of the half dozen bundos and "favorite spots," you know.

Good night and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Hellos, Everybunny!

We're doing well - again ;-) But that's not how the week started. Remember last Saturday, when my hoomin had a hunch that something was brewing with Charlie? He was right. On M*nd*y, during Charlie's bladder expression appointment, he mentioned that something felt off even without any stasis symptoms. He asked that if Dr. Zellner thinks it smells like an infection, please run a urinalysis test on the sample.

All the smellers and sniffers concurred - 14 days of Orbax it is. By now, Dr. Zellner knows Charlie so well. So we started the regimen as soon as we got home. We staved off GI stasis, and Charlie is doing pretty well. Her appetite is good, she's feisty, and she makes the hoomin work for every dose of Orbax he has to give her. She gets 1.3 ml once a day.

Otherwise, things are boring. The summer storms are regular now; there's a low-pressure something in the Gulf, and around La Florida in general, so we expect groovy skies. It sounds like a good day for naps and such, doesn't it? Especially since my biped didn't get much sleep last night and then pulled something in the back trying to get up and serve us breakfast.

Ahhhh, there's just no cure for bipedalism, is there? Serves 'im right if you ask me.

We'll keep you posted!

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Good evening, Everybun!

We are still waiting for the promised rain this afternoon. The backyard looks like a dried-up savanna. The great furnace in the sky is going supernova on us, and we could use some groovy clouds, even a little bit of rain would help.

Last night we made good on our plans to over-art, over-bunn, and we did. My hoomin pulled up a training video on a tablet, fired up the palette knives, and made us a treat dish that smelled like an orchard in the middle of the woods. It was a total bunstravaganza (or is it bunstravabunza?) for the noses and taste buds.

We loafed, and nomed, and dug in the hay mountains until we got all worn out, and had to call it a night.

The funny thing, funny to us, is that the night didn't start all that great. My hoomin was convinced there was something grave commencing - because Charlie loafed in the living room bundo, on the 2nd story, instead of the art room, well past five in the afternoon. He called bauntie Susan. Visualized running to Blue Pearl, and all sorts of stuff, and hyperventilated like mad. Then he realized, "What would he tell the doctor on staff?"
"Oh, no, she eats; yes - she's peeing and pooping. Yes, yes, she took a sprig of cilantro. Yes, she's loafing stretched out - tucks out and all."

Ahh, when the marbles melt into one giant lump of pumice.

And today we're just having a boring day. And no, officially, there is no bunn in that picture:-) It's purely a "mess about" kind of piece to be messed about with between cookie servings.

Good night and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Hellos, Everybunny!

That there is the best sight ever - Charlie mining for Bun knows what in her bin hay stack. She's doing well, weight is steady, and appetite is great. This morning we all got up ready for the weekend - even the hoomin. Of course, at the moment, the mid-day naps are underway. Thank Bun, it's one of those "boring" days that only bunns and bunn people can appreciate.

If all goes well, the next exciting thing will be our Saturday night art adventure. In the meantime, we'll wrap that weekend bubble around us and chill to the max. Then we'll cookie, and apple stick, and willow leaf, and papaya chunk. Yes, we'll verb the thump out of all of them.

We'll keep you posted!

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Bun evening, Everybun!

We're very hoppy to report a boring, napping, arting kind of day. I took over the art room today, but let the hoomin in, for naps and whatnot.

I hear it's summer outside. It was very muggy this morning when my scribe went out to water our strawberry plant. Oh, yes. We have a tiny little strawberry plant out there. We even donated a pawful of golden nuggets to help it along, but we're still waiting. Those strawberries, these days - no sense of urgency whatsoever, I tell you.

Good night and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Hellos, Everybunny!

We're doing well. Charlie got her last dose of Trimeth/Sulfa, and we're glad this is behind us. She made a remarkable recovery from that UTI.

My hoomin slept in a bit, and I was getting really worried. Should I run him over to the v.e.t.? Have his gizzard squeezed and massaged? Maybe take his temp, or pump him full of meds? I mean, the treats weren't out by quarter past five, and I was freaking out.

I think we have more naps to catch up on. A couple of days back, the hoomin was reading the name of a salad of some sort, and his brain decided it was something like "Butchered Butthead Lettuce." So, you tell me. That brain cell isn't done recouping from something, if you ask me.

We'll keep you posted!

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Good evening, Everybun!

We have nothing to report. It's been cloudy, groovy, cool, and the hoomin is trying to out-nap us. Go figure. This morning, breakfast was yammeh, Charlie's fluids were swift and easy, and now we're doing bunny things. And yes, we expect a decent art and study evening too.

Good night and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Hellos, Everybunny!

We're doing well, and Charlie is doing much better. She wasn't doing so great this past Tuesday. She's got another case of UTI, and we were back at the v.e.t. on Tuesday afternoon.

The hoomin noticed that funky smell we remembered from last November. On M*nd*y, the v.e.t. noticed it too, but there were no secondary signs of trouble yet, so she let it go.

Those signs showed up on Tuesday morning. So, Charlie got another expression that day, and passed chunks of the bladder stone. She truly was a super trooper during the visit. This time, we got a medicine called Trimeth/Sulfa (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim?), and Charlie is responding very well. Her appetite is back, she's active, making poops, doing bunny things, and the smell is gone.

My hoomin is still trying to shake off that work trip. The plan is to chillax, enjoy the little cold front we're supposed to get today, and try to recoup. And stay away from the news, of course. Thump!

We'll keep you posted!
- Gus
