Hoppy New Year's Eve

Charlie 25-12-31-gus-charlie-espresso-update-DSC_1923
Charlie, "Oh, humbug! What? Too late for that? Thump then!"
Gus 25-12-31-gus-charlie-espresso-update-DSC_1829
Gus, "That midnight nannerini better be good and stiff like a green bunnana!"

Bun morning, Everybun!

We're not sure what to wear tonight. We may not even go to the art room for any celebrations. And we're weary about any "welcomings" this time around. We tried to be good sports last time, and what happened!?

Xactly! Besides, we try to celebrate at least twice a day, and it's always some kind of "Thanksgiving" around here. "Oh, look! Charlie's in the bin, digging through hay! Oh, look! Gussy is all tucks-out, stretched out, looking like an otter!" Do you catch our drift?

On top of that, we've been enjoying a blast of something icy since last night. Yes, it feels like a really new season or something. So the hoomin reports. Oh yeah, he went for a little run this morning and came back like a popsicle, all giddy, onning about how some trees really look like it's winter.

And now - back to napping. Naps don't nap themselves, you know!

Hoppy New Year's Eve!

Binky Free, Emerson

Good evening, Everybun.

We would like to take this moment to remember Emerson, who passed away a few weeks ago, and extend our deepest condolences to Auntie Jane.

Emerson was and always will be a kind and steadfast disapprover who did his best to keep us on the straight and narrow. His tender paw never wavered in guiding the surrounding livingness.

Binky free, Emerson, we miss you. Thank you for giving Emerson a chance, Auntie Jane.

- Charlie, Gus, and their hoomins.

Remembering Peaches

Bun evening, Everybun!

We would like to take this moment to remember Peaches, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge two years ago. Peaches always took great care of her hoomin, blurring the lines between rescuer and rescuee and reversing the roles.

Peaches saved so many days here, and we miss her righteous disdain.

We'll always hold Peaches and her hoomin, Monica, dearly in our hearts.

- Gus, Charlie, and their hoomins.

Poppy

Maybe we should try something new. How about we don't even look at that New Year thing out there?

- Thank you, Jen, and SFHRR

P.S.: Poppy made an amazing recovery at the rescue after surviving some pretty awful neglect. She's a "Himalayan Lionhead," made up of energy and curiosity. And she's looking for her free-roaming forever home. https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=2597796&name=Poppy

Bun evening, Everybun!

And the long weekend rolls on. Aside from the morning feast and meds, we're keeping out of bun another's way. Of course, the hoomin checks on me from time to time with an Oxbow Simple Rewards Baked Treats with Cranberry, but what am I supposed to tell 'im!? Thank you berry much, now go away?

I have a feeling there will be a few "art and cookie" late evenings. Yesterday, the sorry sod tried to iron out the folds from a couple of FAA San Antonio VFR charts. Oh, Bun! When "the man" puts a crease in ya, it ain't coming out. But, he got them as flat as they're gonna be. Ahhh, yes, there's a reason why San Antonio, and why two charts. All will be revealed in due time.

Good night and good luck!

Bun morning, Everybunny!

We're doing well and have nothing to whine about. Except the hoomin is having a long, long weekend and can't keep his grabby paws off us. Yes, there are extra treats, and apple sticks, and such, but come on! He tried to watch TV with me yesterday. Right. Thump!

OK, we're trying to unwind. It's been a month, so we're trying to enjoy this easy stretch. We'll have an art and treats pawty later. Because, you know, when he says he's not going to start any new art projects, the sorry sod is lying.

 We'll keep you posted!

Hoppy Christmas Day 2 from Jack

Nope, no sir! That was not enough bunnana nog! Oh, come on! Where did you hide the leftovers!?

Here's to a little more cheer, because why not? Maybe you get a second day of Holiday, or you had to work yesterday to "keep things moving," or the long weekend is here!

- Thank you Chris!

P.S.: Little baby Jack is in foster care with Chris from the Irish SPCA. Thank you for giving him a chance!

Merry Christmas to you, too, hoomin. And where is my Cranberry Christmas Bunnana!?

Thank you, Ken and Kaci!

P.S.: Cotton Tail, a one-year-old rescue born after the Warren saved her mom. Syringe-fed for two weeks to stay healthy.
Thank you, Ken and Kaci, for giving them a chance!

Hellos, Everybun!

Just a quick "Hi!" to wish you all the best, no matter what, and if you celebrate. Maybe you just had a day off, or had a big family event, or nothing special at all.

We're in the middle of a little Christmas Miracle with Charlie doing all the bunn stuff as if nothing ever happened. It's been a month, but we'll take this.

Our Monday follow-up at the v. e. t. went very well. Charlie's weight is coming back up, and her bladder is doing much better. Ahh, the things you never knew you would be grateful for.

We even had a proper art-and-cookies party a couple of nights this week.

We'll keep it up, and we'll keep you posted!

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Charlie and Gus 25-12-21-the-bunday-evening-thumps-DSC_1860
Charlie 25-12-21-the-bunday-evening-thumps-DSC_1904

Bun Evening, Everybun!

For once, we've nothing scary to report. Charlie is doing well, spends a lot of time in the hay bin, and we'll take every tiny win we can get. Her follow-up appointment tomorrow is going "well enough."

Last Tuesday, my hoomin and Buntie Susan made a delivery run with Charlie's portrait to Dr. Teed in Bradenton. Everybunny at the clinic loved the piece, and I heard it was great to see the good doctor without one of us in a carrier. As they ruminated about Charlie, the doc called her a "tough old rabbit." So, just picture me now making a shiv from an apple stick. Oh, come on! You know you want to!

But he's right, and it's not for the faint of heart, and it is tough, this business of being an old rabbit. This year, especially, had wrung us dry. Getting with the Holiday program is just not happening. There were losses in the past few months that we didn't even mention because it's been so difficult to process and accept them. The constant hover on the edge of oblivion with Charlie, and time doing its thing on all of us, does not help.

We do what we can. We try to keep this HalloweenThanksgivingBunsMass going year-round. Who said we have to give up the light? Because something, something, this or that Season?

Our Ms. HalloweenSmasBun stays lit up, and we try to squeeze in a little celebration every morning, with presents whenever we can. Now, things like syringe feeding are buzzkill, but we roll with them.

This morning, for example, we hung out together; Charlie loafed, and my hoomin sat with her until it was time to call it a morning and get tucked in for the day.

I hear there's another cookie party tonight at art time. Yeah, the sorry sod can't help starting new projects.

Good night and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

25-12-20-gus-charlie-espresso-update-DSC_1856
25-12-20-gus-charlie-espresso-update-DSC_1862

Bun morning, Everybun!

It's been three weeks since the UTI struck, and Charlie continues to improve. I know, it sounds tough. It feels like it was forever ago. We had no idea three weeks could feel so long.

But Charlie has been eating a lot more hay these past few days. On M*nd*y, we'll have a quick follow-up with Dr. Zellner, and we'll check Charlie's weight. I know, I know, that's very, very uncouth, but it is kinda important.

My hoomin and Charlie had a nice, long moment of chilling together, and now the meatsack thinks he won the lotto or something. I don't put up with such nonsense, of course.

Let's see how much chillaxing and decompressing we can jam into this weekend, 'cause it's been a week.

We'll keep you posted!

Good evening, Everybun!

It's been a very quiet weekend. Everybunny chilled, napped, and took it easy for a change. Charlie keeps getting a little better, her appetite is good, and pellets are a plenty.

The weather is cooperating, the news turned out, and Charlie's portrait is done. And the big plan for next week is to get enough sleep, at least according to my scribe. It must be the fatigue talking.

Good night and good luck!
- Gus

P.S.: Of course there won't be much sleep going on next week. Mark my word - he'll start another art project or something, thump!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Charlie this week 2025-12-10
Charlie, this week.
Charlie this week 2025-12-10
Charlie, this week.
Charlie and Gus this week 2025-12-9
Charlie and Gus last week.

Bun morning, Everybun!

We had a good, albeit short, appointment with the V. E. T. Charlie lost 190 grams; her bladder was still inflamed, but she was doing pretty well otherwise. Charlie got a little bit more Metacam to help with the inflammation. She continues to improve. Yes, it's been over two weeks now, and we kinda wonder if we'll ever get out of these woods. And how?

The biped has been trying to get her to eat more on her own, trying all sorts of tricks and treats, short of offering charging cables and such. We really may have to resort to syringe feeding again.

So, the oscillations between agony and ecstasy continue. "Oh! She's in the bin noming hay! She hid again. She's out loafing, tucks out and all! Did she really lose her appetite for cookies!? Oh, look! She ran up to the hoomin when she heard the cookie bag! She smelled the treat and turned away."

Take this morning, for example. We got up at our usual time, hopped around, sniffed the treats, and went right back to our nighty spot. Then the tray of kudzu and willow came out, and Charlie liked it. Then a small herb salad and Charlie's morning meds - can't complain. We cleaned up pretty well. But we're not coming out to loaf like we usually would. So, what does it mean? Are these changes permanent?

Can you buy a timeshare at a loony bin? Asking for a biped.

We'll keep you posted!
- Gus

P.S.: Oh, look! She's noming oat hay in the bin!

Good evening, Everybun!

We think Charlie continues to improve. Her appetite is improving, we saw her nom more oat hay, and she's not hiding as much as she used to. My hoomin is still watching her, but we try not to stress her with anything. She devours herbs and willow, and if she could only go after all that fresh hay a little more.

We're hoping there won't be any permanent changes in her behavior to deal with, like never using the bin again or such. My hoomin is about ready for the padded room.

So, we're hanging in there. Until Wednesday. That's when we have a follow-up with Dr. Zellner. That's as far ahead as we're going to plot.

In other news, taking advantage of this little weekend breather, the biped finished up Charlie's portrait. We'll sign it, and - keep your fingers crossed - it will go to its forever home this weekend.

 Good night and good luck!

Charlie and bunnana hay

Gus and Bunrise

Greetings, Everybun!

We're still hanging in there. Just a bit ago, Charlie was noming oat hay out of the hay bowl!

That's the best bit of news we have from last week. She's getting better, but the climb to a safer altitude is so slow, so tedious. Most of the meds are stopped at this point. We're still syringe feeding her.

This morning, my hoomin finally prepped some bunnana hay for Charlie, and she likes it enough to eat a little of it. But the morning is getting late for us. It's time to start the mid-day nap.

My hoomin is a depleted, exhausted mess and ready for his nap.

Here's to Charlie hopping into the bin this afternoon and going for some prime hay. We can hope, right

We'll keep you posted!
