Hellos, Everybun!

I'm doing much better. Something happened last Sunday night — we don't know exactly — but my appetite went south. On M*nd*y I heard the word "gas" a lot. We were lucky enough to see Dr. Zellner in the afternoon, and I got one of those famous massages like a Concerto in G Major to Medium for Skilled Fingers and an Obdurate Bun. The good doctor broke up the gas bubble in my gut, felt things around, and induced contraction in my belleh. There was no blockage or anything else that could be of concern. I didn't even have to get one of those pictures where you can see right through me.

And while we were at it, she also squeezed the living p*ss out of me too and was very hoppy with that - because clear and normal urine came out.
Talk about a twofer.

We did catch it early, and later that evening, poops started coming out. Now, I've got a lot of follow-up messages at home. Of course, those were not as glorious as the doctor's, but they kept things moving.
We've made it back to the edge of the woods sometime on Tuesday afternoon.

It's been a real head scratcher. Did I overindulge in something? Let's go with that, because we can tweak the diet a little more. For the most part, we're at the edge of what we can change to keep this from happening again.

So it's been a week. Is my hoomin now a complete basket case or a case of baskets?

That would be twenty-four baskets, correct? That's about right.

We'll keep you posted!

Good evening, Everybun!

A day of remembering everybun that had crossed the Rainbow Bridge, only more so. Our morning frenzy lasted much longer than expected. My biped really cleaned my art room. There were places he didn't dare to touch since February. It demanded an excessive dispensation of cookies. We didn't object, of course. And you heard me right—I said "My room."

Now we're just loafing. And still arting. It's particularly important when stuff tries to come up and crush your throat. And that's how we ended up working on this little piece, which will become a small color study.

Good night and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

25-11-01-gus-charlie-espresso-update-DSC_1773
25-11-01-gus-charlie-espresso-update-DSC_1775

Bun morning, Everybun!

Sometimes funny things happen to us when the moon is out. Then it takes us a while to recover. So that's what we'll do this weekend. Of course, we're doing well otherwise. And yes, we enjoyed this week of overarting mayhem. We stayed well past our usual bedtimes, enjoyed all the treats, and pretended for a minute that the world is not what it seems.

And a bunderful cold front got here! We can't remember the last time we had such great weather on Halloween. I have a hunch now that, instead of waiting till the last minute, we'll start to work on the next story. Why not.

And yes, I'm a buntastic critic.

We'll keep you posted!

Gus The Rolls-Royce Merlin

25-10-30-gus-the-rolce-royce-merlin-DSC_1810

We've been up since three or four,  warming up, and getting ready for the morning patrol. We know he will be coming soon; we just don't know when.

Charlie is dozing off, and I am starting to feel sleepy again.

All of a sudden, my floofs and ears pick up tremors and vibrations; alarms are going off in my body; I am flushed with adrenaline. All this happens before my head has a chance to make any sense of the sudden burst of anxiety. We scramble! I stretch with a yawn and a growl. Charlie coughs, backfires, sputters, puffs of smoke blow out of her fluffy ears, and we're humming. We start the bouncy takeoff roll, our tails lift off the ground, and moments later, we're airborne. The wheels come up.

We hold tight and watch the lunk until we are sure he goes where we want him to go. Charlie stays low, right above the ground. I climb and climb, as hard as I can, all the way to the ceiling.  I look for the light of the double full moons bouncing off the biped's bold head. And there they are, little slivers of reflected moonlight.

25-10-30-gus-the-rolce-royce-merlin-DSC_1812

The Moloch is still half asleep and mumbling to himself, or us, but we pay no attention. I know his blood pressure is redlining, and it is not from coffea. We can feel every thought buzzing in his brain. It's a bun thing. Ancestral stories through the ages have given us a sense of prescience he will never know. He suspects we are very close and that's all he can do. And that blood pressure will go up and up until he can see us.

He slowly turns on the lights, tries to call us on the emergency frequency, and I feel the beads of sweat forming on his forehead. He still wonders where we are, and slowly shlepps in circles over the North Sea of Pee Pads. Tiny golden orbs become trapped between toes, but he never complains.

When he starts to turn his back toward us, we move in for the grab! I snap my mask on, slide the bubble canopy, and latch it tight. I feel a squeeze in my gizzard, and my legs are giving me all they've got.

Charlie's behind me, close to the ground, gaining speed. She strikes first! Charlie weaves like mad around the biped's feet, trying to trip him up, trying to make him step on her. She almost gets him, but right before he's about to crush her paw, he catches himself and keeps that ugly foot up. Charlie knows he won't step on her, and she moves to the spot where he'll try to set his foot on the ground. Of course, he can't, and pulls up that leg at the last moment, then starts to go down. But Charlie has too much speed by now, and can't make that tight turn to meet his foot, and flies wide. She speeds up, makes a big arch, and sets up for another go.

25-10-30-gus-the-rolce-royce-merlin-DSC_1813

The meatsack stays upright against all odds. He waits, covered in perspiration, discombobulated, and frazzled from the gymnastics he didn't expect to have to do. That wakes him up for good, unfortunately.

I keep circling around to keep him guessing, and Charlie closes in.

Almost frozen in place, the biped spins his head like a top, trying to keep track of us. He tries to sit down on the floor, holding the container of cookies in his left paw and using his right paw for support. Just then, Charlie goes right under his duff. Somehow, the lump stops going down for a moment, and Charlie barely makes it to the other side. The biped's legs are screaming with pain, having to arrest the momentum of his descent to the floor.

Finally, I see it. Eyes locked on the cookie bag, I give it all the boost I can muster. My gizzard makes grunting noises, and I lunge.

25-10-30-gus-the-rolce-royce-merlin-DSC_1811

My first snap misses, the second grabs a piece of flesh, and in the corner of my eye, I see the biped's right paw reaching around for my belleh, trying to scoop me up. I break off the attack and dive away with a twist. The turn is so fast and violent that my vision goes dark. I tense my gut as hard as I can. Pellets drop out. But he's not done with me yet. I feel the paws tickling my back, trying to calm me down. He'll go for my gizzard again if I let him, so I keep running. I manage to pounce, bounce, and weasel away somehow.

To cool my head, I make a big circle to get away from the fray; clear the space around me, and speed up for a second pass.

Charlie is the first to start climbing over the sitting biped. I can see his paw holding a cookie, and I make my move once more. The first snap goes wide. I calm down, put in the correction, and lead the paw. Snap! Snap! Snap! I graze the flesh. Snap! Snap! Chomp! I bite into the cookie! The cookie crumbles, crumbs explode in my maw, and I roll away, mouf full, one eye on the biped.

I slowly nom and savor the treat. Seconds feel like infinity until the cookie is gone and only a small field of debris remains on the surface of the North Sea of Pee Pads. I look around and see the hoomin paw holding another snack. I can't have just one! Or two. I go for it one more time. I barely miss, but I correct much faster, and my teeth drive into the treat. No flesh this time. Another dive away. Getting away from the commotion, I swiftly roll left and enter a spiral dive. I slide back my bubble, descend, and unsnap my mask. The thin, dry, freezing air feels good on my face.

My nearly three-sixty vision picks up Charlie peeling away and heading home. We've got our fill.

I look at the gauges, and my legs tell me I'm hopping on fumes. Gear down, flaps down, prop forward. My floofs gently kiss the ground.

We taxi to a stop close to the bundos, and the ground crew takes over. Somebun is trying to put chocks under my paws. Somebun else is looking over every inch of my fur, looking for holes. An over-eager medic tries to check my temperature and gets a swift thump to the forehead instead. My gizzard is making quiet ticking noises as it cools. That pint of pineapple fruit water can't go down fast enough. Trembling paws rummage around for that catnip stogie. Did Charlie take the last one!?

It's still dark outside, and the moons are bright in the night sky. I'm exhausted when Charlie hops around and we disappear deep, deep into the bundo, to loaf, to rest. We'll be ready when both moons rise again.

- Gus, and thank you, Buntie Susan, for all your help with this one.

On a lighter, hopeful note, the backyard Polinator Patch is coming back to life with wildflowers.

Bun evening, Everybun!

Charlie's bladder expression yesterday went well, though the tech did say a lot of stuff came out. Well, that's why we were there. Yes, "we," because yours truly went along for the ride for emotional support. Of course, somebunny tell me, please, how come I took the ride if I didn't buy the ticket? Did I buy the ticket? When? How?

At least we got a nice break from the hoomin for most of the day. And when he made it back, he doted on us like it was the end of days.

Other than that, we're a little overwhelmed with things to thump about. Let's pick just one: Melissa. We're very mindful of and grateful for being spared a direct hit by a hurricane this season. So far. Nothing even came close to the shores of La Florida. But it's too easy to empathise with the Caribbean islands, especially Jamaica. That Category 4 or 5 monstrosity of Melissa is going to menace the island for days before plowing through it. There's no way to escape it, nowhere to evacuate to. It could just as easily be us. We just got d*mned lucky.

How can bun overbun something like that? Sigh. We'll art tonight, I guess.

Good night and good luck!

Hellos, Everybunny!

We're doing well, and we're glad it's the weekend. It's been one of those weeks.

We have a quick visit scheduled with Dr. Zellner for Charlie's bladder expression, and that's going to be it for our extra-bunnicular activities. Of course, some sort of revenge will have to be plotted. The hoomin will be out and about, so plotting will be good. First, we'll sleep on it.

And would you believe it? Today is Picasso's birthday. Yeah, that one. So here's to my hoomin not getting any ideas about arting tonight. Nothing good could come out of it.

We'll keep you posted!

Bun evening, Everybun!

The handsome devil got a clean bill of health yesterday. Got a little pawdicure, got squeezed every which way until Thumpday, and was all none too pleased. But, the doc and her crew were oohing and awwing all the same and just couldn't love on him enough. Thump! He has a girlfriend, you know!

And that's as good as things get sometimes. Then we napped, and even the hoomin loafed, and finally, this morning, felt ready for the weekend.

Now we're ready for the Bunday night festivities. I have a feeling it's going to be all art.

Good night and good luck!

Hellos, Everybunny!

I have a routine visit to my v. e. t. this morning. Nothing major, just my six-month checkup. Here's to having nothing to report tomorrow other than everybunny telling me how cute I am.

Oh, how the time flies. Just like that, we're halfway through October. I keep hearing how nice the "habitable zone" outside feels these days. And if we were the stroller-loving kind, we would know first paw, but we'll settle for the biped reports.

And aside from all that, I see a lot of loafing taking place today. And arting, I suspect. I'll have to pose for my story. Sigh.

We'll keep you posted!

25-10-12-the-bunday-evening-thumps-DSC_1713

Good evening, Everybun!

It's been a very quiet day in the burrow. Even my scribe didn't do anything. I mean, he tried to "brush" Charlie, and it didn't go well. She hid, and he had to deliver cookies to her on his knees, crying into the bundo, apologizing. Serves him right, I say.

Maybe - and that's a big maybe - we'll art tonight. He asked me if I would pose for a sketch wearing an old-fashioned RAF flying helmet with an oxygen mask. I looked at him and thought, "The sorry sod is really getting tired of having all his original digits, isn't he!?"

 Good nigh and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

25-10-11-gus-charlie-espresso-update-DSC_1737
25-10-11-gus-charlie-espresso-update-DSC_1712

Bun morning, Everybun!

The scribe says it's here. If you stuck your nose outside, you would feel back in the habitable zone. The cold front is here. Unfortunately, the Milton hurricane saga from last year, almost to the day, still feels very, very fresh.

Hopping back into the moment, we're doing well and have nothing to complain about. The only plans we have for this weekend are loafing and arting. And since we're mixing arting with flying and bunfiction, we'll try to work out another memory palace or two.

Maybe we can even take it up a notch, and I can play the main character.

We'll keep you posted!
