The Bunday Evening Thumps

25-07-27-the-bunday-evening-thumps-DSC_1531
25-07-27-the-bunday-evening-thumps-DSC_1533

Good evening, Everybun!

We're just chillin' the best we can. It's really hot outside, so just being cool and cozy is a treat by itself. It's even better with no news to report.

The silly goose of a hoomin wore himself out properly before the sun had a chance to fully rise, and that was about all for the day. He's been trying to loaf and relax ever since. A little bit of painting here, a little bit of chasing us with a camera there, and that's about it for the day.

I think we're still trying to catch that mythical "breath." It's been a lot harder to do lately than we had expected.

Good night and good luck!

Hellos, Everybunny!

Everybun is doing well. Sometimes, no news is still the best news. Other than that, it's hot, the tropics are quiet, and we're doing that "one paw in front of the other dance." As long as I get my sub-q fluids and the tiny, golden nuggets keep coming, my hoomin recombobulates.

This morning's routine got a little scrambled because my hoomin disappeared to help friends with moving prep. All went well, and we can all catch up on naps and loafing. And arting, yes. Ya have to keep up with that, or your soul will turn dark blue and rot. Soul Stasis is always bad news.

We just received our "How ya guyz doin'!?" courtesy cookies, so we should be set until the afternoon. Then we'll take over the "studio," pass judgment, disapprove, critique, and criticize, make unreasonable demands, and extract more snacker bribes.

We'll keep you posted!

The Bunday Evening Thumps

25-07-20-the-bunday-evening-thumps-DSC_1456
25-07-20-the-bunday-evening-thumps-DSC_1466

Bun evening, Everybun!

Luckily, we have no news to report, and we hope things stay that way.

These days, we don't really operate on the night-and-day cycle. Rather, it's the twelve-hour cycle between medications Charlie has to take and the associated treats cycle. Should we turn up our noses at the food - the timeline starts to twist and fold on itself, and all routines and rules go out the window. So do sleep and sanity for my hoomin.

But I digress. Everybunny's doin OK. We're looking for tricks to make the days off from the pits feel longer. Arting seems to do that. We try to get creative and gain as much altitude as we can, just so we can glide, and maybe, just maybe, catch the next creative thermal. Thank Bun the evening is still young.

And here's to Charlie demanding extra treats tonight.

 Good night and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

25-07-19-gus-charlie-espresso-update-DSC_1501
Commissioner Gus, "Shivs, what shivs!?"

Bug morning, Everybun!

Everybunny's doing well - eating, pooping, and disapproving, of course. Charlie returned to her usual self and is sprinting around, taking corners like Niki Lauda, every time she sees the hoomin.

But, it wouldn't be Charlie if we didn't have at least a little bit of excitement. Last Sunday, right after the post was posted, Charlie decided that treats are just not her thing. Out came the meds, the heart palpitations, the pre-grief.

Come M*nd*y morning, all was well. Gus led the charge. "Ya gonna fetch her treats or do I need to make another shiv from an apple stick!?" said Gus.

Everything else was just raspberry gravy. Now my hoomin is hoping to maybe enjoy a couple of half days off this weekend. He's just grateful the pellets are coming.

We'll keep you posted!

The Bunday Evening Thumps

25-07-13-the-bunday-evening-thumps-DSC_1498
25-07-13-the-bunday-evening-thumps-DSC_1455

Good evening, Everybun!

It's been a quiet day, and we had our first nap of the day right along our hoomin. He just sprawled out on the floor next to Charlie and stared at us like a weirdo. Thump. I didn't mind that much 'cause I had an apple stuck to work over, but Charlie zonked out. From there on it was a chillax kinda day.

Here are a few "lessons learned" from last week.

  1. We missed the first, gentle sign that something was wrong when, for hours, we didn't see any pellets around the bin. Charlie's bin habits are OK, but not great. As long as she "goes" we're hoppy.

  2. When we did catch it, the recovery protocol held us over until we could get to the doctor. We were only able to do that thanks to all the help and support from our rabbit-savvy friends and doctors over the years. We were able to get Charlie just the right amount of help, keeping her stress level to a minimum.

Spressy left us when everything became just too much for him, and all the good hands he was in at that moment could do nothing about it.

  3. We were lucky to be able to see Dr. Zellner. The other options would have been to try to see Dr. Teed (an hour-long drive) or to go to BluePearl.

We're just glad the stars aligned as they did. We're grateful we were able to beat back this one. And we try to keep that Bunoweensmas spirit going all the time. That statue of "Mrs. Bun," wearing a witchy hat, adorned with Christmas lights, sets the mood right.

Good night and good luck!
- Gus

PS: Here's a recap of the entire adventure

Monday evening

It started with cleaning around our bins last M*nd*y. All the pads were changed, and we got a fresh hay bin. Typically, fresh poops would show up around the bin shortly after the cleanup, because Charlie goes wherever Charlie wants to go. But the perimeter stayed clean for way longer than "normal."

Now we think that was when Charlie first started experiencing the symptoms of stasis. She was still active that evening and demanded the evening treats as usual.

Tuesday

5:30 AM

Charlie refused treats and was hiding under the bed, and would not come out on her own.

The recovery protocol started:

1 ml Metoclopromide

1 ml of gas drops

1.3 ml Metacam (24-hr dose based on her body weight)

Belly massage (The kind when you can touch your fingertips through their belly - ask your vet to show you how it's done.)

Rage eating hay when placed in the bin and encouraged.

She was drinking and peeing a little.

After a couple of hours, we booked a visit with our V.E.T. That was a miracle in itself; the vet is usually difficult to get a visit with, but somebunny up there liked us that day.

Around noon, Charlie took a half a cookie, and then the other half. Then she got 14 ml of Sarx recovery food via a syringe.

3:30 PM

During the visit, the doc discovered the 2 broken nails and thought that they might have been the source of the distress. Otherwise, Charlie was in good shape - she wasn't dehydrated, wasn't bloated, and the doc could not feel any significant blockage. Whatever she felt was starting to build got broken up through that extensive massage.

Once we got home, we continued with the feeding, massages, and got Charlie running around as much as possible. And shortly before 10 PM, we got a few band-spanking new pellets!

She received 1 ml of Metoclopromide (1 ml every 12 hours). Charlie stayed isolated from Gus so we could keep a close eye on the pellets.

Wednesday

There were poops around the bin! We kept up the medication and feeding routine. Every dose of recovery food was followed by 1 ml of gas drops. Massage, rage-eat hay, run around, rinse and repeat.

Thursday

We maintained the recovery routine as in previous days.

The big break came in the afternoon. And they kept coming. We broke the quarantine. Charlie started demanding cookies.

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

25-07-12-gus-charlie-espresso-update-DSC_1493

Hellos, Everbynny!

Charlie is back to her usual self. This morning's bundemomium proceeded as if nothing ever happened. I enjoyed a couple of extra apple sticks, and we called it a morning.

My hoomin woke up today feeling like a death on a stick after last week's excitement.

We'll keep it simple for now and just load, without getting belly massages, and getting checked on every five seconds. And if all goes well, we'll run circles around the hoomin in the studio tonight, and try to squeeze what we can out of him.

Last but not least, we'll have to write down the "lessons learned" from this adventure. Sigh.

 We'll keep you posted!

Charlie Evening Update

Good evening, Everybun!

After a day that was long on anxiety and short on pellets from Charlie, things took a turn for the better. It took a lot of belly massaging, syringe feeding, and writing down every pellet that managed to come. We kept our v.e.t. updated via texts and chatted a ton with buntie Susan. The biped almost went into stasis himself.

In the early evening poops started coming! She ate a tiny salad of cilantro and mint - with doctor's permission, of course. Now she wants cookies as if nothing ever happened.

Are we out of the woods? We won't count the pellets before they come out. We're just hopeful. We may even return to our "normally scheduled programming" if Friday morning goes well.

Good night and good luck!

Charlie Evening Update

Charlie chillin' with Gus

Good evening, Everybun!

This is Gus reporting for Charlie. Charlie is still on leave as she continues to battle this frightening episode of GI Stasis.

We had a good handful of pellets this morning, and her appetite improved quite a bit. She drinks on her own and likes the treats my hoomin makes us from the recovery food. They become irresistible when the biped adds a bit of pineapple juice to the mix.

Charlie's temperature is normal. She's not as active as she typically is, and instead she loafs and naps "tucks out" style. Usually, at this time of night, she would be up and chasing the hoomin for treats every chance she got. So, we're not out of the woods yet.

We can see the light from somewhere near the edge of these woods, and we're just hoping it's not "the light," if you catch my drift.

Good night and good luck!

Charlie Evening Update

Charlie, "Chillin' after a round of running around the vet's office."

Good evening, Everybun!

I had an unexpected trip to my V.E.T. this afternoon. I stopped eating last night - and pooping, of course. This morning, my hoomin started the recovery protocol, but then we could only wait until this afternoon.

The vet discovered two torn nails, very recent, that could be the cause of the upset. I got an exam with a belly massage like you wouldn't believe. The doc worked me over hard and said I'm doing pretty well otherwise. She felt poops waiting to come out, there was no significant gas, and she moved around and broke up whatever was starting to block me.

Syringe feeding will continue, along with gas drops. I'm to run around a lot. I'm resentful about that already - it's very uncouth for a princess like me to be "running around."

Hopefully we'll have poops pics before long and we hope to return to our "regularly scheduled programming."

We could use some of those good, healing vibes.

The Bunday Evening Thumps

25-07-06-the-bunday-evening-thumps-DSC_1463
25-07-06-the-bunday-evening-thumps-DSC_1458

Bun evening, Everybun!

It's been a good day for chilling and enjoying the quiet, which feels more quite after the past two nights. Arting, loafing, extorting cookies. Enjoying having nothing to report.

Last Sunday, my hoomin started this new, big canvas and, at just attacked it with colors. Today, he realized "the wine was sour and had to be thrown out." Your suspicions are correct - the sorry sod watched "The Agony and the Ecstasy" last night and liked it. So he turned to his Divine Inspirator and doodled with a stick of graphite. As always, Spressy came through, and we will start that latest adventure all over again.

Thank Bun that what has been painted can remain and will serve as another layer of depth.

Good night and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

25-07-05-gus-charlie-espresso-update-DSC_1488
25-07-05-gus-charlie-espresso-update-DSC_1489

Hellos, Everybunny!

Charlie's follow-up x-ray last Wednesday showed a significant reduction in urine sludge. The doc also showed my hoomin how to express Charlie's bladder. It was the second "squeeze" that got out some of the sludge. I know because I was there - I'm always there. I'm her wingbun, and I go to all the appointments with her.

The takeaway is to keep doing what we're doing. The hoomins are getting better at giving Charlie those darn sub-q fluids, and Charlie seems to be getting less and less mad after each procedure.

Now, chillaxing is in full swing. My hoomin's trying to put himself back together after last week, and we're helping however we can. Last night, for example, everybunny stayed up late to art because it was impossible to sleep with all the noise outside.

We stayed up, arted, and extracted extra treats. Our appetite cheers him up for some reason. Then, we pretended to be the Pope and nagged him about when the painting would end, and he quipped that "when he's finished." Of course, he didn't finish anything last night.

We'll keep you posted!
