Mr. Bun update

No news is good news kind of a week :-) Noming, hopping, pooping giant pellets full of hay. Can't ask for more.

I'm getting more used to my bum bafs though. When I have to have one from time to time I can almost stand in the sink on my own and not freak out. Who knew?

I'm getting lots of snurgles and head rubs - as it should be, of course. Hoomin plays a surrogate bun best he can. He'll cup his hands so I can stick my nose in there and stay like that for as long as we can. Or at least for as long as his knees can take it.

You know, when one bunn is wedging his or her head under the belleh of another bunn? Yeah, we play that a lot. I have to be careful though, I fall asleep sometimes and can't keep my eye on him. Because, you know, hoomins.

- Mr. Bun

PS: Dear Auntie Jane,
Your knitting offer is a truly a heart flutter inducing proposition :-) Our apologies for such a late response, but we were just thinking if there's anything at all I wouldn't mind. Came up with nothing. But... there's this routine we go through every time I get a bum baf. I sit in a little doggie bed lined with a pad and hair towel so I can get a little less wet. Then I get covered up snugly with a towel and receive all the headrubs I like. Maybe a little rectangular knit would be great? I think that would change the status of the procedure from 'routine' to 'ceremony' ;-) - Mr. Bun

The Disapprovers - into the...

It was a calm and beautiful night.

We decided Abby would be our lookout. Being the new girl, we didn't want her to get in trouble. If any hoomins lumbered out of slumber, lurking about and checking on us, she was to pretend she's trying to get their attention. If they realized we were gone, trying to alert them would make her look like "the good bunny".

She would thump a few times and that would be our clue to abort the mission.  We would have to sneak back in fast enough to create confusion as to where we really came from.

Molly watched how Suzy hacked the surveillance cam.

We assumed positions pretending to snooze or cuddle together and a still photo of that was displayed by the cam.

Now we had to hurry.

We grabbed our tools and lights and started gearing up. Everything had to be secured pretty tightly. We had to be extremely quiet, we didn't want any equipment rattling and clinking. I couldn't get the straps on my vest properly tightened and had to ask Suz for help. It took Suzy and Abby to pull on the straps and when they did it almost squeezed all the air out of me. That's ok, everything would eventually loosen up a little once we got moving.

We paused for a moment and listened. Some snoring from our hoomins, refrigerator humming in the kitchen, summer bugs raising ruckus in the trees.

Suzy comes up to me as say "you're walking the point, Major". That's when it hit me. We are going to explore.

Do you remember what it was like to dream about doing something you didn't really believe you could do? And then finding yourself doing just that?  That excitement and disbelief  that it's happening create a rather potent potion. My little heart almost worked its way out through my throat. I could barely move my legs.

I took my first hop, very softly, second hop, almost swimming through the night. Suzy and Molly followed, so quiet I looked back couple of times to make sure they were still there.

The shakes started going away a little bit and my pace became steady. We've made it to the stairway going down to the first floor. We had to be extra careful sneaking down. Keeping balance was a little harder than we expected. Considering the additional weight of our gear I was afraid we would all take a tumble and raise Kane.

I almost did. My front paw slipped and I could not regain any control over where I was going.

Molly grabbed me by a strap on my vest. She didn't let go.

We stopped for a little bit and caught our breath. I replanted my foots on the steps and carried on.

Eventually we've made it all the way to the basement. Suzy took off her pack and started feeling for the section of the floor she suspected was hollow underneath.
It was pretty dark and we could not make out much by the glow of the night-lights. She turned her head light on.

After what felt like an eternity she whispered "I think it's right here".

We rolled up the rug and looked for edges of a section we hoped to lift off.
Molly and I took couple of chisels and shoved them into the gaps between couple of planks.

Three - two - one and push!

Nothing.

We tried again and this time we felt a little movement, just a little bit of give.
One more time.

It softly popped!

We gathered around the edge and tried to peer into the dusty abyss below. Molly and I turned our head lights on...

Hold on now partner, you don't really mean that, do you? I think what you really mean to say is "I'll be right back with another treat", don't you?

Pirulo

I don't really care how 'you' like to run things around here, especially on M*nd*ys. You're a hoomin and you'll run them how I like them. Let's start with a carrotini. I'll sit and sip and watch you run, properly.

- Thank you Angela!

PS: Pirulo is a bunny Agela did bunny sitting for. He is a dwarf mix. More than likely a Netherland. He actually loves being pet. But, his first couple days at their house, he was in disgust at the fact that he was staying with us and not his humans. He wants his mommy back!!! And did, as soon as they got back from vacation!!!

Mr. Bun update

Another Saturday, another trip to the vet. My hoomin sure knows how to spoil a weekend.

Sorry about the fuzzy pix, best we could do under the circumstances.
The important part here is I gained a little bit of weight - the vet grinned.

Another follow up at the vet indeed. And nothing but good news this time.
The ulcer on my eye is gone! Yep, I got dye put in eye, vet turned off the lights and look at my eyeball with a funny looking device with a  flash light.

It's gone. No more eye drops.

I wish you could see their surprised looks when we showed off my freshly hairy bum. All nicely grown over.

I think this is the best I've been since the original injury!

Disapprovers - the workshop

What?!? Lynx? How many? Are you kidding me? That's not funny. I don't care if it's 20 lbs. or a 100 lbs. Lynx. Do you know what Lynx do?

- Oh, common Suzy. Not THAT kind of Lynx we're dealing with here. This will make a fine little work shop. Just for us girls. Mr. Toes will not be allowed here.

Ehem, who do you think is going to outfit said workshop? Yes, yours truly. Because yours truly run out of things to do. Right. I think if they want to call it 'their' work shop, they ought to set it all up themselves.

In the meantime, Abby and I had to put on a show for our hoomins.
They've been running us through this 'bonding' routine, wondering if we can get along. Ohhhh, we get along alright. I am kind of curious though. If we're to embark on an adventure, I like to know how we'd get along if things got difficult or go off-script. That's when you learn a lot about your crew mate. I like to be sure, just in case.

So I played along, we put on a good show. I think we would do well together when it really mattered.

Pretending to be bunn sledders though was a bit much. Sometimes I wonder how do I ever put up with hoomins.

Mr. Toes does know his stuff very well. He can lead or follow as the situation requires. He can take care of the menial tasks without getting his whiskers in a bunch.

I'm starting to think we have the right staff, so to speak.

Suzy, I heard from Mr. Toes that Abby's and his training went very well.

But if our "Major" thinks that he can leave us behind, in the shop, he's got a different saaaalad coming to him.

... yeah. I don't care what plans he's making. I'll just say it better have space for all of us.

 - Thank you Renee!

Oh no, M*nd*ys are in YOUR contract, remember? ... the part about hopping with joy to tar pits, hell holes or any and all cavernities as required? ... you had to initial that one in your own bile. Yeah, something about  blood being insufficient for that.

Mr. Bun update

Greetings Everybunny!!!

We have 2 pieces of good news:
- I'm keeping dry and peach fuzz has grown over the scalded parts and bits!
- Vet caught an 'ulcer on my eye' which is being treated with eye drops.
... and I feel very, very lively, more so than in a very long time.

Here's how things went down starting with the vet visit a couple of weeks ago.
Hoomin been thinking (scary, ain't it?). He asked the vet to do a tear duct flush. I've done well after it last time they did it to me at Blue Pearl in Tampa.

We were hoping it would take care of my sneezing for a while. The
vet did the flush and in the process discovered an 'ulcer on my eye'. (Second hand words, that's why the quotes). Now, twice a day I get tormented with eye drops. Until the bottle is empty. Do you know how many torture sessions that is? Me neither.  But, it doesn't hurt and I kinda like being cuddled by my hoomin while his Concubine puts the drops on my eyeball.  I have extra long beautiful lashes that I use like armor to bounce the drop away, alas, the Concubine is very skilled in drop-fu.

Drops are working though, or so it seems. I do feel much better and I manifest that with lightning fast scoots for treats and almost no teeth grinding. I'm much more my 'old' self (no pun intended).

Alas, there was a price to pay. I managed to snag and break one of my toenails on the bum leg (while at the vet.) It got dressed and taped up. Dressing stayed on for a couple of days. Hoomin almost fainted when he took it off.

Here's the really good part. For a few weeks now we've been using 'hoomin' grade incontinence pads as wrappers for my sitting pads. They wick away moisture like magic. Redness and irritation have gone away and I'm growing fresh peach fuzz where I lost my hair.

That with Neem shampoo and Calendula cream are working pure magic!

It was a mad chase to find a pad that would work. Again, by chance, we found store brand pads at CVS that are, hands down, the best. I say "by chance" because those particular pads are very hard to find and most stores don't have them in stock. He found them by pure luck and since then been hunting for them.

When we tested them, we observed drops of liquid get immediately absorbed and the surface staying only slightly damp. Not moist or wet, but only very slightly damp.

We've gone through a large set of pads of various makes and brands and none of them compared with the CVS ones.  To be honest, they are not fit to keep anything dry, complete rubbish!

CVS

NorthShore

GoodNights

Water got absorbed INSTANTLY and surface stayed almost completely dry, so very slightly damp.

Purchased these on-line directly form NorthShore (Amazon had some fake stuff that people complained about :-( )

Note the drop of water staying on the surface for a good while. Long enough to snap few pixes before it disappeared. Meaning long enough to get absorbed by bunn's fur.
After absorption, surface stays damp. More than we would like it to.
Water got absorbed instantly, but the surface felt moist to the touch for a long time.
We will try a few more brands just to see what else is out there. The only drawback is, those 'hoomin grade' pads are way more expensive than doggie pads.  A bunn slaves gotta do what a bun slaves gotta do.

In the meantime we'll be visiting the vet for a follow-up next Saturday.

While he was changing my pads I scooted out and settled in the doggie bed. I've never done something like that before so he felt compelled to snap a pix of it of course.

... and we'll keep you posted.

Disapprovers - the new crew

Sometimes you think the next chapter is all there, ready to play out how you planned it. Suddenly it goes 'poof' and you're starting from scratch.
I, I don't know what to say.  We're all in shock, knocked back on our bunny butts.

It sure feels like being a stranger in a strange world. This crew has gone through something really bad and they still welcomed me. So much has changed in the last week. I was dreaming about a forever home and now some dude is asking me if I'm any good with wires and tools. Yeah,  you try to make sense of it. I know they've lost a friend. So for now I'm just watching. A lot.

I'm sure it'll be fine, Suzy.

One minute I'm the new girl and the next I'm a regular. That's how dizzy spells happen.

Mr. Toes? Suzy told me all about you. Yes, I know how to work an ohm meter, why?

My stomach feels like a spinning top. One second it's happy the next sad. I'm glad for all the time we had with Cleo, I'm glad Abby will have a good life too. She'll fit our crew just right.

- Thank you Renee!
