Hoppy Memorial Day

Charlie and Espresso, "Is that an imitation sunset, sunrise, or are you hoppy to serve us salaaaads!?"
Espresso, "My plan for today."

Have a Safe and Hoppy Memorial Day!

We've got a simple plan for today - reflecting and reminiscing while loafing. And yes - the arting frenzy will continue.

We're almost a week away from the rhinoscopy, so I'm just trying to help my hoomin get out of his head. It can be a rough neighborhood up there, and no bun should hang around a place like that by bunself for too long.

We'll keep you posted!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Hellos, Everybun!

It's been a quiet week in our burrow. I'm starting to feel maybe we should name it something—you know, that burrow of ours—a "Disapproving Burrow" or something. Thus, I could tell you, "Well, it's been a quiet week in Disapproving Burrow."

Today, we hope to get a prescription for new nose drops for Spressy. We need to switch things up a bit. That's the extent of our plans for the weekend, though. We'll deal with other stuff as it rolls in. All in all, we're just waiting for Spressy's rhinoscopy. Everything else feels like something to be gotten through.

My hoomin will push hard to finish the few little paintings he started last week, so there will be a metric thump of arting going on. And all the pictures he took at the rescue last Sunday still need processing. I don't get it, but he quips about loving the smell of acrylics and oils first thing in the morning.

We'll keep you posted!

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Good evening, Everybun!

It's been a quiet day in the burrow today. There are a lot of clouds outside, but very little rain. Still, it's a good thing the clouds are outside, eh?

The "Sneezer" is getting a break from nose drops for the next few days, and my hoomin is really freaking out. It seems the nose drops are starting to help less and less. Hopefully, by tomorrow this time, we'll know when the rhinoscopy will occur.

In other news, my hoomin fixed my little portrait and doggone it - I'm more myself in it! He also disappeared somewhere this morning and showed up later, smelling of strange bunns! Then I found out it was another picture day at the rescue. Good grief, he photographed a metric tone of disapprovers, great and small!

Thank Bun, the day is still young here, and there will be more arting. I just hope he'll leave us alone - until salaaaaad time, of course.

Goodnight and good luck!
- Charlie

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Hellos, Everybun!

We're enjoying the relative quiet of the "in-between" days as we inch closer to 'Spresso's rhinoscopy. On M*nd*y, we're supposed to find out if it can be done on the fourth of June. You know, logistics and stuff. Especially staff - the whole team at the V. E. T. needs to be available that day. So we're keeping our paws crossed that all will proceed smoothly.

My hoomin decided to paint some cards, and what did he do? Made me look like a dog! That's a load of Shih Tzu if there ever was one - thump! I thump, and he keeps whining that it's not done yet, yada, yada. It better not be done. But then again, I don't look like I'm coming out of a raspberry syrup spill or something. Of course, bun can never underestimate stupid, and that little piece can go sideways and turn into a royal screw-up - ha!

What I'm seeing now is a new pattern—when a loss occurs, something goes up on the easel.

We'll keep you posted!

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Espresso
Charlie and Gus

Good evening, Everybun!

Me thinks something pretending to be a cold front rolled through here! It's nice outside! I've been scratching my head over this all morning.

Spressy lasted five days without the nose drops before his sneezing returned. I think my hoomin is still in shock that this is happening, that the only way we care to entertain to get through this is to get the flushing done. But this emotional jet lag feels devastating to him.

The next step will be to plan the logistics of it all, from scheduling to having my hoomin's leg and arm amputated - the hospital expects their pound or two of flesh - to aftercare. Again, it looks like maybe next M*nd*y would be the day to do it  - the doctor at Blue Pearl would be available for a couple of days after the procedure if something goes sideways. I'm guessin' phone calls will be made tomorrow.

In other news, "Graham Cracker and Mel" finally arrived at its temporary home :-) It's been such a long while. So much has happened since we started that painting, and stuff keeps happening.

Goodnight and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Espresso
Chalie
Gus, "I'm not exactly fiends with the guy, but for thumps sake - that's a lot!"
Hellos, Everybunny!

Things are getting proper hot and muggy out there. Of course, we're playing it cool. We kinda have to. My hoomin got the treatment plan for my "mineralization situation," and it's a lot to digest.

2. Rhinoscopy and attempted removal
-We would anesthetized [sic] Espresso and place a small camera up his nose to visualize the stone. A
saline flush would be used to try and dislodge the stone. Once the stone is removed, sending it out for analysis and
culture would be recommended. Complications include significant bleeding and swelling of the nasal passage
necessitating oxygen therapy until breathing normally.

That sounds pretty serious. But wait - there's more.

Anesthetic death can also occur. The stone may be firmly stuck and unable to be removed with this method.

So, how does bun get clarity on whether to embark on such an adventure? And if we decide to do nothing?

1. Benign neglect
-Concerns that the stone will cause worsening infection. Severe infection can cause destruction

... doesn't sound right, does it?

The third option is surgery - we ain't gonna hop there.

Anyway, we don't have to decide right this minute. My regular v. e. t. thinks I'd get through the Rhinoscopy just fine. The specialist at Blue Pearl doesn't see any red flags either.

And so the hoomin keeps pestering me with questions about how I feel about all this and what I want done or not done. Like I would tell him - that's his cup of torment. I have a stone in my nose.

For now, though, I'm doing well enough. I'm getting a break from the nose drops, and it's great. The sneezing subsided for now. You know, I can't be on those drops continuously - things would get toxic for my kidneys. So, we're managing - one paw in front of the other and one sunrise at a time.

We'll keep you posted!

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Espresso
Gus and Charlie
"Gus says 'Hi!'" acrylic on cardboard with gloss varnish
"Graham Cracker and Mel", good to go.
Gus

Good evening, Everybun!

It's been a quiet day. Something we could all use. Even my hoomin took it easy. Stuff finally caught up with him, and he didn't feel too well, making it easier to go, "Eh, thump it. Let's loaf." And I know how to loaf. I got my nose drops this morning, and as long as I get my dinner tonight - that's all I care about.

In other news, "Graham Cracker and Mel" shipped out — finally, after over a year. As we mentioned last week, he got a companion for the trip. Gus took over the outer sleeve, protecting the bubble-wrapped piece.

Next up - I may be posing for some "thank you" cards.

Goodnight, and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Espresso
Spanish Needle Spring Mix - It's what's for dinner!

 Hellos, Everybun!

It's been a strange week in this burrow. My initial visit on M*nd*y at the Blue Pearl clinic went well. My hoomin opted to have the CT Scan done, and I had the scan on Thumpday or Wednesday if you like. And it's a good thing I did!

Here's what the V. E. T. wrote,

"(...) Initial view of the CT suggested Espresso has a rhinolith or small mineralization in his nose. This is most likely the cause of his sneezing. Recovered uneventfully and happily at 15 mL of herbivore care once awake. Rhinoliths are mineralization found in the nasal cavity. They can be secondary to foreign materials (grass, seed, paper, etc.) or mucous. Rhinoliths are a rare condition in cats and dogs and initial literature search for cases in rabbits seems sparse. Nasal flush, endoscopy, surgery (rhinotomy), or benign neglect may be potential treatment options. A more thorough literature search is required before making a final decision. (...)"

Today, my hoomin spoke with my regular V. E. T. and found out this would not have shown up on X-rays and she was glad we did the scan.

I had a good stretch of a few days without sneezing, but now I'm back on the drops. And last night was on the rough side.

That's all the good news for now.

Also, on M*nd*y, we got a letter from our V. E. T. announcing she's retiring at the end of the month. Ever since, my hoomin has been sobbing himself into a puddle. Now I have a useless zombie on my paws. He's taking that bit of news awful hard - awful hard.

We'll keep you posted!
