Bunday Evening Thumps - Halloween Edition

Gus, "Oh really !? The willow leaves grew out of that shrunken hay head?"

Espresso, "The head wasn't crunchy! And you're late again."

Everybunny got the Skull of Sarx for a breakfast snack ;-)

Skull of Sarx, kudzu and willow leaves.

Good evening, Everybun!

Ghosts can be sneaky, whimsical puffs of time. And you never know what will conjure them up. You take a sip of coffee, and it becomes an incantation. "Boo!" For a split second, you are in a different time, almost in a different body.

For a split second, you are back in art school, waiting for the class to start thirty-five years ago. Then, the moment fades away.

A couple of weeks ago, my hoomin went to the coworking office in an old fire station in downtown St. Pete. During a pause of ghostly clarity, Pesto was giggling there, amused at how funny life can be. That fire station and Pesto make up one of the beginnings of my hoomin.

The very first project my hoomin did that went to print was the 1988 Annual Report for the St. Petersburg Fire Department. My hoomin did a pen and ink illustration featuring the station's facade – brick by brick by brick.

And there he was, standing among these same bricks, looking out the window in disbelief at that kid working on the illustration. Of course, Pesto would laugh at how the winding road came full circle. If you told that kid that he would spend a day in that station putting together a project design of such scale and complexity, he would never believe it. He would have liked to believe it, but he wouldn't. Pesto would laugh with the kind of laughter that only three Purple Hearts can give you.

Good night, and good luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Espresso, "What do you want now!? Yes, it's a raspberry, and it tastes very raspberry. You expecting a medal or something?"

Espresso, "No, of course, not licking my lips, hoomin!"
Greetings, Everybun!

It's been windy and rainy for days now, and finally, something cold-ish blew in this morning. Unfortunately, all that groovy cloud cover and cloudscapes are clearing up now.

Our Gussy finished his antibiotic treatment, and his pellets went to the V. E. T. for a re-check. Hopefully, the bacteria cleared out. Let's hope his gut is as healthy as the rest of him appears to be.

My hoomin mumbled something about taking a cue from us and trying some loaf-naps. The tar pit days were long this week and only got longer.

We'll keep you posted,

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Charlie, "And which is it, hoomin - disapproving charm, or charming disapproval?"

Good Evening, Everybun!

Things are back to normal around here. The internets are back and as distracting as ever. I think everybunny had had it with the infrastructure adventures for this year - the internet dudes had to replace the physical cable running from the telephone pole in the back yard to the house. Thump!

Now we look forward to a good old boring week next week. There will be no half-days at a co-work office for my hoomin or any other nonsense like that. He will try to catch us when any bits and pieces of reflected light catch us around the house, but that's to be expected.

Good Night, and Good Luck,
- Charlie

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Greetings, Everybunny!

It's going to be one strange weekend here as the internets died and nobun can come out to fix it till tomorrow morning. I recon my hoomin is in for a taste of them "good all days," right? Dang, he's going to need a plan B when his tar pits are concerned. What if the outage happened during the week? I can just hear the "note-to-self" scribbling away.

The good news is that Gus is doing well and should be done with his meds tomorrow. His appetite is great, and at least on the surface, all seems well. I guess his samples will have to be re-tested.

We'll keep you posted,

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Good Evening, Everybun!

It finally happened. Somebun turned on the big A/C in the sky over La Florida, and the outside feels livable. According to my hoomin, anyway. I still can't outside because we can't get vaccinated against RHDV2 here. Thump!

In other news, Gus tested positive for coccidia. Thump! Charlie and I tested clean, though. Gus is taking Albon twice a day until next Sunday. The good news is he likes the medicine and has a great appetite! Go figure; Gus wants to eat that sauce right off the syringe. And the hoomin doesn't wrestle him as he does me when I need to take something. Not fair - thump!

Good Night, and Good Luck!
- Espresso

PS: If you wonder why my eye is fuzzy in the pic, its' because my hoomin messed up. Of course, he always messes up. He was testing his setup for tethered shooting (the camera connects to a computer, and with the help of some software, the picture displays on the computer so you can have a better look at it right away).

That's all good, but we're not that generous with our patience. We begrudge every second of sitting still. If the hoomin is futzing with the cables, laptops, and junk, that's his problem - tough cookies!

And no, we don't care that it took him twelve years to get to this point. And we didn't feel that honored by any of his drama. I said good luck and good riddance, hoomin - and deep under the bed, we retreated and hid.

Bun Fiction Update

Starring Alexander Humilbun as "Peach" in "Close Encounters Of The Bun Kind."
AJ Cannon, "Better the cover of the Rolling Stone!"
Of course, any self-respecting bunstronaut would wrap a present in an expired sectional ;-)

The latest issue of the House Rabbit Journal just came, and it contains an article by our hoomin, titled "Close Encounters Of The Bun Kind." Not only that, but the photo he took of AJ Cannon made the cover!

We want to extend our most profound appreciation to the House Rabbit Journal, especially to one of its editors, Shana Abé, for making this possible. We would also like to thank Communications Manager Larrisa Church for her outstanding work on the issue's layout.

Shana's prompt to write the story and her editorial on the piece made it all come together like a miracle.

You can thank the global supply chain's problems for the summer issue coming out so late this year. It's crazy how the world is spinning these days—thump!

My hoomin wrapped a couple copies of the Journal like a present and hand-delivered them to AJ's mom, Susan. She almost broke down crying when she realized AJ had stolen the cover.

It's been almost a year since my hoomin took the photos of Peach and Apricot. Shortly after that, they tried a new forever home and then returned to Susan. Now, they rule Susan's castle and enjoy their new identities as Alexander and Eliza.

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Espresso and Charlie, "In your face, hoomin - bunny but Sunday morning!"

Good Evening, Everybun!

My hoomin overloaded his puny plate with too much stuff to do for today, and we had a blast watching him chase his tail. Of course, we had a loaf party all morning long. He seethed with envy, but that's how the cookie crumbled.

But, not all is lost. He's got a day off tomorrow and will try to overdo it again. How come the day off tomorrow? It showed up as a paid holiday on the payroll calendar at the tar pits - go figure.

As lovely as it sounds, though, only we get true "loaf holidays"  - and every day is a loaf holiday for us - ha!

Good Night, and Good Luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Gus, "Hoomin, you're plotting something."

Gus, "We're waiting for the V. E. T., aren't we!?"

Gus, "In the wreckage of my bunship."

Greetings, Everybun!

Welcome to Buntober, or is Hoptober? Either way - 'tis the season for all scary things, like Gus refusing cookies one dark morning this week. He came around with some help from his hoomin but earned himself a trip to the V. E. t. this morning.

It's almost time for his regular checkup anyway, so his mood change is as good an excuse as any.

Everything turned out OK, and Gus got a clean bill of health. A sample of his "raisins" is going to the lab, and we should hear about the results next week.

We'll keep you posted,

The Bunday Evening Thumps

Charlie

Espresso, "It's complicated and scary!"

Good Evening, Everybun!

The forecast called for sunny skies, temps in the upper 80's, and that overall "La Florida Fall" feeling. And we got all that.

But if you keep still and close your eyes, you will notice - I don't want to say ghostly" but generally difficult to quantify phenomena.

Like the scattered layer of disapproval, low and hugging the ground, made up of sideways looks, and "accidental" foot flicks toward any hoomin that has the misfortune to pass by.

Then there's the middle, broken layer. Hardly any hope of doing anything right shines through.

And finally, the ceiling; a solid deck of disdain, impenetrable and hopeless, producing a steady, implicit, freezing drizzle of knowing that the hoomin will never measure up to the task, no matter how trivial. The hoomin or the task. It soaks you with despair, and the disappointment drips off your nose.

And when you dare to look up at the luminous sky again, you wonder how is all that even possible!?

Good Night, and Good Luck!

Espresso, Charlie, and Gus Update

Espresso the Sometimes-Magnanimous

Charlie "Zoomer" the Stratodisapprovous

Greetings, Everybun!

Sometimes, the afternoon sunlight will bounce off the wall just so and light Charlie like a cloud. This "stratodisapprovous" will rain a judgemental hail of expectations upon you will demand a tribute.

Powerless; you will serve cookies, grovel on your knees, administer head rubs, and whisper praises to that cloud of fluff.
