Cooking with Suzy

Greetings Every Bunny!

Today we'll show you how to prepare treats made with Critical Care and baby food.

We'll need:

3 Tablespoons of Apple Banana Critical Care
3 Tablespoons of hot water
2 Tablespoons of baby food

Mix hot water with critical care, then  add baby food. Roll on hand in dry critical care, place on pan covered in tinfoil.

Bake at 150 degrees for 30 minutes.

You can use whatever kind of baby food you'd like or pumpkin purée. (We used "Earth's Best Apples & Blueberries" baby food).

Our oven goes down to only 170 degrees so that's what went with. After 30 minutes we had the following (quarter in upper right is size reference):

I'm sure the next patch will be more consistent size wise ;-)
Stick to it, hoomin!

... and before we serve it with mint and raspberry ....

 ... survey says!

... I like mint, go figure.

Ok, Ok, I loved them.

Just had to wait till hoomin wasn't looking
and I nomed them in a heartbeat!
Thank you Suzy!

Well, glad you like them Mr. Bun :-)

- Thank you Renee and Suzy for the recipe and  inspiration!

Peanut and Tater Tot

Yeah, I'm sure. They always get distracted this way. Remember, timing is everything, we have to do this right when the latch is being open. Ok, here she comes, just like we practiced ....

Mufasa

Don't you worry, hoomin. How much disapproval do you need today?

- Thank you Cara!

PS:

Mufasa is from feline/rabbit rescue in Nebraska, "Cara's Animal House".

Cara says "We have 49 cats and 28 buns in our care now. We rescue, foster, and do adoptions. We are also a sanctuary for any that do not find a permanent home. After researching, I believe we are the only companion rabbit rescue in Nebraska.

It is tough, but slowly we are spreading the word about rabbits. So many people just do not understand them. A lot of the calls we get are from rabbits that used to be 4-H show rabbits and no longer serve their "purpose" or from parents of children who just "lost interest". And then we have our farm stores, which sell them for $10 to anyone who walks in the door.

Never ending battle, but we will be their voice and we will continue to fight for them. We just love your page and love all the stories that you post. We got to know you from Dolly's page. What amazing people her parents are. We still miss her, as everyone does I am sure."

This is their rescue page on FB. They are working on a stand alone website and their very own logo.

Mr. Bun update....

Greetings folks! Been to the vet on Tuesday and the word is I gained some weight. Eating hay, I gained some weight. Go figure. My leg is doing as well as it's going to. Got a butt baf too. I hate those and will continue to hate them. The only thing that makes them better are treats ;-)

The indignity continues though. My hoomin figured out how to give me a butt wash all by himself - in a pinch, if there's no one around to help, bl**dy b*st*rd. But my bum will stay clean at least.

Next, the new liner from http://www.cartwheelfactory.com/
We tried it couple of times and it seems to work fine. The biggest problem initially was the smell of this stuff. Very rubbery and nasty. Hoomin soaked and washed it in body was in the bathtub, then left it out in the sun for a day. Now it smells like body wash.

It's super easy to hand wash though. A little bit of dish soap will foam up on it like crazy. Rinse, hang out to dry and it's ready in a few minutes to be put down again. That's a huge advantage over the drawer liners that would take a long time to be cycled through machine wash and dry.

My next favourite thing is the VetBed from PetLife in the UK! Initially we got just 1 piece of it and now favourite spot is where ever that thing is. Soft, comfy, wick away the moisture really well.

After hoomin realised how much I like it, he ordered 9 more pieces to have a rotation going. The only complaint we have is that we could not find a US distributor of it. You can find it on Amazon here, it ships from the UK though. Guess where it shipped from in the UK - Manchester ;-) Yep.

... see the grey stuff? That's the VetBed.

So now you have it. And after all this rigmarole clean up, set up and picture taking,
I got a nice, very nice saaaalad.

One puzzling question remains. How do you re-train a bunn to use a litter box after he stopped using it? Hmmmm.....

Mr. Toes - bunn should not have to work this hard....

... you know what, hoomin?

... no bunny should work this hard for treats.

... I have an idea...

... THAT'S what I'm talking about!

- Mr. Toes.

- Thank you Renee!

Mr. Bun update

Got a lucky break this week - no pun intended. Hoomin planned to drag me out to the vet for a follow up, but he managed to come down with a really nasty cold. And since I'm back to my old self - as much as I can be that is - we didn't go. Tuesday he says. Anyway, I can almost do my normal bunny yoga stretches and I can speed hop around when I feel like it. Especially when he tries to clean up my digs. He puts me here, I go there, he puts me there, I go here. It's very entertaining.

Angel - aka Big Brown

I'm just not in the mood, ok? And it's your fault.

- Thank you Angela!

PS: According to Angela, "Big Brown was so upset with her hide-a-bunny box, she decided to fling her pellets out of it towards her other bunny friends and hoomin as well."

Mr. Bun ... update

Hoomin says I hop around rather briskly these days. I'm still eating lots of oat hey - like a bun should. But I don't get anything sugary - if the hoomin can help it. What a  bas***d! Veggies are yummy and I always try to clean my plate ;-)

Hoomin says he ordered some new material from a kitchen supply store in CA that should be easier to maintain than the drawer liner. It comes 26 inch wide, with minimum order of 10 feet - we'll keep you posted. Right now we have about 3 rolls of drawer liner worth of pieces in rotation, covering up the pee pads. The even gooder news is, I'm even using my pee box a little!

Cleo and Elf, the floppy bunny

Now, look here Mr. Bun. Maybe you need to give you floppy bunny a chance? He's very fluffy and cuddly, listens very well, never interrupts me and is very patient.

Maybe you can play some games with him? ... bunns against hoominity, or bunn jack?

- Thank you Renee!
